About our home

Our Victorian house is located in the heart of Balham, a lively, safe and vibrant neighbourhood in Southwest London. It is well-appointed with all the mod cons. The kitchen is architect-designed and well-equipped. It opens onto the garden through fully folding concertina doors, giving you an "outdoor room". The double lounge has a dining area with a table that seats 8. The house has 4 double bedrooms and can sleep 8-10 people. The master bedroom has a kingsize bed and sitting area; there isdoubled room with double bed and boutique-style ensuite; one double has 2 bunk beds and the final double room has a single bed. Three of the rooms can easily fit an extra bed (we have a sofa bed, a stool bed and foldaway). This means that up to 10 people can be accommodated comfortably. The 2 bathrooms have underfloor heating, showers and baths. It is a large house (by London standards) with period features, refurbished in a contemporary fashion which complements its Victorian roots.
If you enjoy cooking we are minutes from 2 large supermarkets as well as a smaller organic supermarket and local independent traders. There's a fabulous French boulangerie round the corner and a host of coffee shops, from Bertie and Boo (voted best independent coffee shop) to Starbucks. If you can't be bothered to cook there are plenty of restaurants and bars on our doorstep as well as a number of chic shops. We are very close to 2 of the best neighbourhood restaurants in London (Lamberts and Chez Bruce, the latter is Michelin starred).
We are near to 3 large parks, the closet being 5 mins walk. There are lovely walks and they are a joggers paradise. Tooting common attracts lots of wildlife including herons and parakeets (yes parakeets!). There are a number if gyms close by which may give you day membership if you want to pump iron. For those with younger children there's a play barn a short walk away.
With the tube and overland stations only 3 minutes walk you can be in the heart of the town in 20 minutes if you wsh to take in a show, the galleries or just people-watch on the Southbank. Shopping in Chelsea is 20 minutes away, Selfridges and Oxford Street 30 minutes.
This is an ideal and relaxing spot for exploring all that London has to offer.
If you're coming for the Olympics or Paralympics, we are about 40 minutes from the main Olympic stadium, 40 minutes from Greenwich park (equestrian), 30 minutes from Wimbledon (tennis) and 25 minutes to Horseguards parade (for those keen to see the beach volleyball).
We hope you will care for our home as we will yours. We have a cleaner who visits weekly and should you wish to keep up this arrangement let us know. We really hope you enjoy your time in London and perhaps get to know some of the local Balham "villagers" like we have.

Features

More about us

  1. We're a family of 4. The children are 13 and 8. They are quiet, bookish types who like to visit new places.

  2. Jonathan teaches history, I am a hospital doctor and work at a local university.

  3. We love food and fine wine and culture. Everyone in our house reads a lot, so there are plenty of books around. We also love games (electronic and board games) and cycling (we have lots of bikes).
