About our home

Our home is a lovely, bright studio flat with separate kitchen, bathroom, hall and balcony (approx 40 sq m). It faces south (i.e. sunlight throughout the day) and overlooks St Andrews Gardens - a quiet oasis in the centre of London. The flat is on the 5th floor of Trinity Court, an Art Deco block with period features. There are 2 lifts and a live-in porter. The interior of the block and the flat itself have recently been redecorated.
You’ll have use of:
- Free Wi-Fi internet access and laptop computer
- Free international and local phone calls to any landline
- Multi-channel Smart TV with built in Wi-Fi and Freeview HD
- Hi-fi music system and i-pod speakers
- ‘Time Out London’ which is delivered to the flat every Wednesday - the listings guide with everything you need to know about what’s on in London, giving details of theatres, cinemas, galleries, museums and reviews of new pubs, restaurants, bars and shops
- London maps (including bus & tube) and guidebooks
- Oyster cards for use on all public transport in London (saving you £’s on travel expenses and easy to top up at any tube or railway station and many local shops)

More about us

  1. We are Nick and Caroline. We are both teachers (Special Needs/Early Years). We are both 50. We love travelling and have travelled widely in both Europe and further afield. We have lived and worked in both Spain and South America. We have rented out our flat but have not done a home exchange before. We are keen to try a home exchange and want to spend this July/August in Sydney in order to visit Nick's brothers who both live there. We have visited Sydney several times before. We look forward to doing exchanges to other locations in the future.

Where is it?

Our flat is situated in Central London on the Bloomsbury/Clerkenwell borders.

We are a 10 minute walk from St Pancras International (Eurostar trains will whisk you to Paris or Brussels in 2¼ hours), Russell Square (direct line to Heathrow airport) Kings Cross & Chancery Lane underground stations.

We are a 15 minute walk from the British Museum. Shops, theatres & cinemas in Covent Garden, Soho and the West End are a 20 minute walk. The bars, clubs, restaurants and shops in Clerkenwell and Islington are also within easy walking distance.

There are lots of local shops, pubs, bars and restaurants. The Brunswick Centre is less than 10 minutes walk for Waitrose supermarket, a variety of chain stores and restaurants and the Renoir art house/mainstream cinema.

Our local area is also famous for more quirky and original shops to be found in Lambs Conduit Street, Marchmont Street, Exmouth Market and Amwell Street – all within a 10 minute walk.

Bloomsbury is famous for its literary connections. Charles Dicken’s house/museum is less than 5 minutes walk. We live within the area known as Museum Mile – 13 museums & art galleries within a mile radius.

For anyone who enjoys running we can leave details of our favourite circular 10km run which takes you past Smithfield Market, St Paul’s Cathedral, Tate Modern, along the River Thames past the Southbank Arts Centre (Hayward Gallery, National Theatre and Festival Hall), the London Eye, Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, St James Park, Buckingham Palace, Horseguards Parade, Trafalgar Square and the British Museum. We usually like to finish our run with a cup of tea at the café in Russell Square.

We can also recommend our favourite local pubs, bars and restaurants and give some suggestions for more unusual London sightseeing.

In addition to easy access and close proximity to nearly all tube lines, there are many different bus routes within a few minutes walk of our flat.

Boris Bikes (Barclay Bike Hire Scheme) are an easy and very cheap way of getting around Central London. Bikes are available opposite the flat.

It’s an easy and pleasant walk or short bus ride to the river. Thames Clipper River Boats are a great way of seeing the river and getting to places such as Greenwich (Observatory/Maritime Museum/market), the O2 (music venue) and Canary Wharf.

London is also a fantastic base for going to visit other areas of the country. From London you can get a train to anywhere, and it is possible to do easy day trips to Cambridge, Oxford, Brighton, Windsor or lesser known but equally beautiful towns which we could recommend for you. Manchester, Liverpool, Bath and York are all less than two and a half hours away by train and would make good overnight trips.
