About our home

We live in a modernised 3 bedroom Victorian family home in a very quiet street in North London.

The house was refurbished by an architect in 2005 and has an open plan kitchen, living room, bathroom, separate shower room and WC, and 3 double bedrooms (two of which belong to our two children, one with a bunk bed and the other a loft bed). It has a small townhouse garden overlooked by our light airy kitchen. The floor-to-ceiling doors to the garden fold all the way to the outer edge, giving the kitchen a greater sense of being part of the greenery of the sunny west facing garden.

In 2012, we did our first swap in California which was really successful. We then swapped with a great house in Bali over New Year 2013/14. We're looking for a swap in late July/August 2016 this year somewhere warm! We'll consider time slots from between two weeks to one month.

Our home is in the village area of Stoke Newington in North-East London. The area is very family friendly, with a recently refurbished Victorian public park and gardens just 5 minutes away, a new public sports centre and swimming pools just around the corner. There are a wide variety of independent shops and restaurants on Church Street, also a 5 minute walk away. Nearby, you'll find Broadway Market, a destination for all passionate foodies. Upper Street in Islington will also provide you with a range of high-class boutiques, delis and restaurants. Both areas are about 2 miles away and easily accessible by public transport.

Stoke Newington retains its wonderful village-like feel because it doesn't have a tube station, and you can happliy find nearly everything you need nearby and in Islington. But if you need more, the West End of London, with its world class cultural reputation (and shopping!), is around 4 miles away. We're also a very short journey away from London's newest glossiest shopping mall, Westfield at Stratford where you can get good views of the Olympic stadium and park. Tourist attractions such as the Tower of London, the Globe Theatre and Tate Modern are an easy bus journey away. Their close proximity to the River Thames means that you can spend time walking along the River, all the way to Westminster to the House of Commons and the Cathedral. Alternatively you can take a river boat to Greenwich to see the Cutty Sark and the beautiful Royal Observatory. You musn't miss Borough Market either, a foodie haven, which is situated at London Bridge. Another easy destination to reach from our house.
