About our home

Our main requirement at the moment is to spend FIVE or SIX days in New York City at the beginning of October 2011. Any takers? You can have our London home or a longer spell in our holiday home in the South of France (see below).

Our London house is thirty-five years old and is on one of the first private developments on the Isle of Dogs. It faces directly onto the River Thames which can be seen from all floors. The house backs onto a private square with a communal garden, and space for parking. We recently re-furbished the house, expanding the lounge area and turning the garage into a new kitchen. There is a master bedroom with en-suite bathroom, a second bedroom with adjoining shower, and a sofabed downstairs. Very good stereo system with about 600 CD's, multi-channel TV. We have a very friendly cat who goes out when she likes but will need feeding.

More about us

  1. We are a middle-aged professional couple (film-maker, mostly retired, and teacher) and our bright and well-behaved 15-year old daughter. We are very experienced home exchangers and travellers. We offer an automatic Honda Prelude for trips out of town (Essex, Kent and Sussex very accessible), but don't recommend driving into central London.

Our holiday home is in Rennes les Bains, south of Carcassonne. See full details at

Where is it?

Often called Docklands by estate agents, the Isle of Dogs is one of the oldest communities in London. Defined by a large 'U' shape in the Thames, downstream of Tower Bridge, it was the busiest part of the Port of London, and home to dockers and others in maritime trades. Completely transformed now, it houses the Canary Wharf financial centre and many new facilities and transport links. You can reach central London in under half an hour. Nearby are shops, restaurants, traditional pubs, a large park, a city farm and the now-tranquil docks. Directly across the river, and easy to get to, is the O2, London's major arena for music and sports events. Historic Greenwich is directly across from the south and can be reached by a foot tunnel under the Thames.
