About our home

We have a traditional Victorian era cottage built in 1864 of 70sqm in the Barnes area of London. This exclusive area is very green and retains a small village feel despite being less than 5 minutes bus from busy Hammersmith tube station with its 3 tube lines and multiple buses. It's about a 10min. bus ride from there to Kensington and Hyde Park. Also, the British rail station to Waterloo, Big Ben, Parliament and Tate Modern is a lovely 5 minutes walk through the park from our home and a pleasant 20 min. ride. We are also not far from Kew Gardens and Hampton Court Palace.

We love this area of London and wouldn't live anywhere else. It is one of the few areas to retain its traditional country feel yet allows us to jump into the busy centre with ease and come home to hang out in neighborhood gastropubs and wonderful restaurants and tea rooms.

Our house is also a 5 minute walk from the Thames river in either direction. There is also a very nice playground with paddling pool for children to use in the summer in the large park behind our house (1 minute walk). It's a great location for children because it's like living in the countryside yet easy to go shopping in Chelsea or museum hopping on either Southside (Parliament (best views are from Waterloo bridge),Tate Modern museum, Tate Britian museum, Imperial War Museum, London Eye, Southbank) or up to Hammersmith for easy access to the V&A, Science Museum or Natural History Museum in South Kensington.

The cottage has 2 bedrooms, one with a queen size bed and the other with 2 full size bunk beds which can fit adults. Downstairs we have a large open plan kitchen/living room where double doors open to an outdoor patio. There is no road directly in front of the house, only a pathway, so no road noise.
We are a 2 min. walk from Barnes pond and Barnes Common which is a large green park great for running/walking. There is also a large playground and paddling pool for children located behind our house, one minute walk. Our house is newly renovated with underfloor heating throughout and new kitchen and bathroom. It is very light and pleasant.

We have a cat whom we would like to stay for short exchanges. (If it is a problem, we have a neighbor willing to keep her) She is quite independent and friendly, is outside all night and sleeps all day. For longer stays we would put her in a cattery.

Our cleaner comes by once a week for 3-4 hrs for week long stays.

We have loads of toys, books, games and dvds to keep children occupied.

We also have an inflatable areobed or a mattress for a small child that can be easily set up in either bedroom.
