About our home

Our lovely home is situated just a few miles outside of Edinburgh on the East Lothian coast, which means we have all the benefits of being close to the city (18 mins by train to city centre) while enjoying the peace and beauty of a village by the sea (5 mins walk to the sea). This would be a great swap for a couple or family who want to explore busy Edinburgh, but live in an area of natural beauty with wide open landscapes. Its a golfer's heaven, with at least 8 course running the length of the coast, all with sensational sea views, including the championship courses Muirfield and Archerfield. Longniddry golf course is two minutes walk from the house. Its a great centre for day trips, with a host of charming seaside villages, stately homes and ruined castles, birdwatching sites, beaches and clifftops to explore. Its an area renowned for good walks, sailing and cycling. We have a community tennis court just over the road. Its a great place for families, with local parks, beaches and woods to explore. The garden here is a real treat for young and old - flat, safe and spacious for little ones, a beautiful deck from which to enjoy some peace and sunshine, a cute little summerhouse for those inevitable cooler days!

The house was built as a traditional bungalow and has been extended over the years. It is bright, sunny and spacious, with a relaxed style. We love our garden and have collected some nice artwork over the years, and these two things set the style and atmosphere of our home

On the ground floor we have two lounges. To the front of the house, a traditional lounge with bay window and fireplace and stove. To the back of the house, the garden room is part of an open plan extension which has floor to ceiling doors opening on to the deck, with lovely views of the garden. This too has a gas stove. Both rooms have wall mounted, internet TVs, with Netfix etc. (TV in front lounge has been upgraded since photo was taken).

The kitchen is open plan with dining area. It was refitted 3 years ago and has dishwasher, Gaggia coffee machine, microwave, large fridge/freezer, well equipped with everything you would need. Washing machine is located just off the kitchen.

There is one bedroom downstairs with kingsize bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside cupboards.

There is a study which has a futon for occasional extra bed space.

On the ground floor there is a family bathroom with bath and shower.

Upstairs is the main bedroom, with kingsize bed, wardrobes, chest of drawers etc, and a third smaller bedroom with double bed and chest.

Also upstairs is a shower room.

WIfi. Gas central heating.

Outside - mature, secluded garden. Sunny deck, and 2 other sitting areas with garden chairs and table. Summer house and 2 other garden outbuildings Gas BBQ.

Front garden with off road parking for two cars.

This is our main home, but we also have a holiday home in TOURLOTI EAST CRETE which is available for swaps and points, in combination with our home in Scotland if you want a very different experience within Europe.

Where is it?

Buzzy restaurants
All the villages along the coast have pubs offering food, including Longniddry. Our favourite is in Gullane, a 5 min drive.
Cool bars
For a night out take the train in to Edinburgh for great bars and restaurants.
Retail therapy
There are a few shops in the village, 2 mins walk away, which do the basics, and 2 great farm shops within a couple of mins drive. Bigger supermarkets are 15 mis drive. North Berwick has a great collection of independent food, gift, art and coffee shops in its busy little high street.
Bit of culture
Edinburgh is close at hand for theatre, concert, movies, art galleries and heritage. Come in August for the Edinburgh Festival, Fringe and Fringe by the Sea at North Berwick.
Walks in the park
The coastal walks in East lothian are exceptional, and you can start right at our front door.
Spot of exercise
Golf is a major attraction in our area, with at least 8 courses strung along the coast, including the championship course Muirfield at Gullane, Longniddry has a lovely links course with sea views just at the end of the road. If thats not your thing, this is a great area for walking, cycling, birdwatching, sailing, kayaking, windsurfing.
Day tripping
Edinburgh, of course. North Berwick for its great high street, coffee shops, beach, harbour, boat trips to the Bass Rock, Sea Bird Centre. John Muir counrty park and East Links Family Park at Dunbar. Dirleton and Tantallon castles for history and romance. Aberlady Bay and St Abbs for birdwatching. Scottish borders and Fife are only a day trip away.
