About our home

Liiliput is a fantastic little village just around the bay from Sandbanks. We had a holiday home here when I was growing up so it's wonderful to be able to spend weekends and summers here now with our two little girls on the same golden beaches. Though I have to say the area is a lot more 'luxe' than when I was a boy . . . it's not known as Notting Hill-on-Sea for nothing!

Turn left out of our front door and it's a short stroll to the Salterns Marina for a pint of Ringwood 49er ale and fine food in its characterful hotel overlooking the harbour. Watch the comings and goings of the upmarket yachties, or just enjoy the stunning views across Poole Harbour to Old Harry Rocks and Brownsea Island.

Turn right and you're at a cute parade of shops including the best fish and chips in Dorset, a fully stocked Tesco, Oddbins wine merchants and several surf shops. Literally everything you could need is on your doorstep.

Head out towards Sandbanks and you climb first to the stunning Evening Hill - my favourite spot in the world, to the extent that I want my ashes scattered there when I die! Then descend towards the harbour, with kite surfers on your right and the waves lapping the pavement. It's a 10-15 minute walk or 2/3 minutes in the car to reach Sandbanks proper with its world famous beach and glamorous cafes and bars. Check out beach polo in the summer or just relax in Cafe Shore with a cocktail and watch the sunset.
