“Thanks Janet! we had an amazing weekend in Derbyshire. What a great little village and a stunning house. We loved climbing out of the window and into the playground! especially Ned! Alma did too although she was celebrating her 1st birthday so didn't know what was going on! Brilliant location to explore the area, we ventured to Bakewell, Matlock and Chatsworth. Chatsworth farm shop was amazing, could have spent a small fortune in there... tested a few local pubs too, mostly by the name of Devonshire Arms (two locally) The house itself was perfect. really cosy and fantastic knives and forks! you've done a wonderful conversion and kept such lovely features. what a special place. thanks millions, strongly recommend, we hope you enjoyed North Yorkshire as much as we did Derbyshire.”

About our home
We live in a beautifully situated converted chapel in the Peak District national park. The Chapel is light, spacious and full of character with extensive views over the village and green rolling hills of the Peak District national park. The original wall pews and pulpit form part of the furnishings and the large gothic windows face south and west creating a sunny and dramatic space. The main lounge feels warm and cosy under the mezanine and features a cast iron stove.
There is a self contained apartment called Chapel Croft which can be included in an exchange. Chapel Croft was originally a croft and stable for the preachers horse. It consists of a bedroom, bathroom, lounge and kitchen area.
Outside there is a garden terrace, which has further beautiful views across the village and up the valley. The Chapel is surrounded on the other sides by open fields for grazing sheep and a village green with play facilities for children.
Beeley is an historic village that forms part of the Chatsworth estate. It is small and picturesque with traditional cottages, brook, ancient manor house and an old country church. The River Derwent is just a stone's throw away and Chatsworth House and formal gardens a delightful 40 minute stroll along the river. There is a village pub plus a cafe / shop situated just down the hill from The Chapel. The pub (The Devonshire Arms) is an atmospheric old coaching inn renowned for it's traditional beers and fine dining. Both the village cafe and the pub have big log fires in the winter and pretty gardens for the summer.
There is an adjoining Sunday School annexe on the north side of The Chapel which is currently rented out.

“In a nutshell: Wonderful trip, Fabulous hosts, Beautiful place.”
“We (sister Louise and myself) enjoyed a beautiful stay in this haven of tranquility in Beeley, just beside Chatsworth House & National Park. Janet & John have done an amazing job in their conversion of this former chapel to render it a comfortable home with tasteful touches and careful attention to decoration. We awoke to birdsong and tranquility in this wonderfully quaint little village. There’s lots to do and see in the area whether you like walking / visiting stately homes or just chilling in the countryside. Our encounters with locals left us with a positive impression, as people are ever so friendly. I would recommend unreservedly Janet & John's Derbyshire home. They are super hosts, their home is clean & tidy, warm & inviting, with everything we needed to hand and properly explained.”
“Property very well located to explore the Peak District and within easy reach of neighbouring cities includiing Nottingham & Derby. Property is comfortable and spacious with beautiful views of countryside. House is adjacent to park, which is ideal for children. Chatsworth House & Gardens located within 2 miles, and well worth a visit.”
“My friend and I had a fantastic time at Janet's beautiful chapel in the Peak District. It is beautifully furnished, equipped, and comfortable. Situated in a fantastic location, with amazing walks right on the doorstep. Janet is a fantastic communicator and did everything she could to make our stay a good one. And it was! When Janet visits my house in Italy, I hope she has as fantastic a time that my friend and I had.”
“We loved staying at the chapel in Derbyshire. The open plan living space made spending time there very enjoyable, whether preparing a meal, watching television or reading. Further, the chapel is ideally located for exploring many of the delights of the region, walking across the sheep fields to visit the Chatsworth House with its amazing gardens or hiking in the Peak District. Janet provided us with a complete set of brochures and maps, detailing how to take advantage of the local attractions. ”
“ We had such a lovely time. The house was welcoming, warm and clean and the location is stunning. The hosts were wonderful. If you are able to go, we recommend it 100%”
“We had such a lovely trip - big thank yous to our amazing hosts who bent over backwards to leave lots of useful information, and even bread and milk and a Bakewell pudding (!). The house itself is wonderful. Eye masks to block the light are a good idea in the summer if you don't like a light bedroom. Walks around are lovely, especially with the handy laminated sheet guiding us.... thank you again :)”
“Lovely Old Chapel located moments from Chatsworth House, we had a wonderful break there, the chapel has a wonderful log burner powerd by gas which makes life much easier... Nice and cosy, well equipped kitchen, a very quirky place for a holiday. Thank you very much Janet”
“We had a wonderful stay in Janet's home. It is in a beautiful part of Derbyshire, England, very comfortable, quiet, clean, and beautifully decorated. The village was a special surprise, with restaurants in walking distance, and a perfect location to explore the area. I highly recommend her home to anyone interested in this part of the Britain. ”
“My husband and I spent a wonderful anniversary weekend in this unique home. We walked to Chatsworth along the river and back across the hills, but could just have easily spent the day chilling out at the chapel, reading or listening to music, under the high ceilings and stained glass.”
“What an amazing week, living in a Methodist Chapel built in1891, with the real feel of a church maintained throughout while providing all of the comforts and conveniences of a home. The village of Beeley is so quaint, and so nicely located within the Peak District. We enjoyed our walks through the pastures and hills and exploring the small villages and beautiful old churches that seem to be everywhere. There are hundreds of walking paths so convenient to Beeley. We hiked through the Chatsworth Estate from the house, and to the top of Kinder Scout, and through the pastures and valleys around Youlgreave. Higlights of our week include: touring Chatsworth Estate and the estate villages (including Beeley); touring the Medieval Haddon Hall; exploring the towns and villages like Bakewell, Castleton, Over Hadden, and Youlgreave, In the evening, we watched movies filmed in the area (like The Duchess and Jane Eyre) provided by Janet and John, who are wonderful hosts. (They made sure we felt welcome by gifting us with a Bakewell Pudding and a bottle of nice wine!) We would love to come back to Beeley and The Chapel!”
“I have just returned home from a wonderful swap points trip in Janet's an John's property in Beeley. The house was absolutely great. It is a truly unique home and is set up perfectly for home swappers and guests. Once we had agreed the trip, Janet sent me a lengthy document full of very useful information and instructions about the house, the area and all of the things to do nearby. This was fantastic as it was my first trip with Love Home Swap and so the information and instructions were invaluable to us. The area itself was exactly what we needed, a quiet village with all of the countryside you could ever want and need right on your door step. The walk to Chatsworth Estate was gorgeous and took us round areas we would not have seen otherwise. The nearby Devonshire Arms pub and 'the old smithys' cafe in Beeley were also great and both had lovely outdoor seating areas that were great in the sun. Both Janet and John were most accommodating to us and I would definitely recommend swapping with them.”
“A fantastic chapel conversion in a beautiful location. ”
3 things they loved about the trip
- Staying in the chapel; vaulted ceilings, comfortable, beautiful!
- Location, Location, Location!
- River Derwent walk.
“This is a highly recommended home swap. Janet and Bruce are the most experienced swappers we have swapped with and their house set up reflects this. The walks from the doorstep are amongst the best we have been on. We plan to swap again and look forward to our next adventure in the chapel. ”
