About our home

Our house is a relaxed and comfortable family home in a lovely English village six miles from Newark on Trent.. Although our location is rural, there are amenities in the village including 2 food shops a butcher; a pharmacy and newsagent. A very good eating pub is within a five minute drive of the village.

We love the rather quirky layout of our home as the kitchen and main sitting room are upstairs and open onto a roof terrace overlooking the garden. The kitchen was handbuilt for us in 2009 and includes all the usual suspects pus an Aga cooker and a table that seats ten for informal dining.. The kitchen is also open to an atrium above the stairs and the downstairs sitting room. Both sitting rooms are equipped with television (55 and 37 inch) satellite tv and music sound systems. We also have a dvd collection of about 400 films about which we wonder whether we should be ashamed! In addition, there is a music room/library downstairs with a grand piano and many books. Four of our five bedrooms have en suite facilities and 5 ft double beds. At present the other bedroom has a single bed.

Please note: whilst we would be very happy for children to visit our home prospective visitors should be aware that the roof terrace and the open nature of the top of the stairs may make it less appropriate for toddlers, though our 2 year old granddaughter is a regular visitor.

In the garden we have an office with a new Concept 2 rowing machine and a rather aged exercise bicycle. Our garden is still a 'work in progress' but allows for a good barbeque and a rather lumpy game of croquet or a run about!

Six miles away is Newark, an historic market town with a medieval market square, some lovely cafes, a good French restaurant and great wine merchant! Within a half hour drive is the Vale of Belvoir with Belvoir Castle and Lincoln with its magnificent medieval cathedra is 10 miles away. Doddington Hall an Elizabethan House with an excellent farm shop and cafe/restaurant is a 15 minute drive and York is 45 mins away by rail. In addition, Cambridge and London are easily reachable for a day trip. London 80 minutes by rail from Newark.

We are happy to include our car in the swap subject to insurer's approval. It is a 7 seater Land Rover Discovery.
