About our home

Our home is a traditional Devon longhouse. It is rambling and has lots of character. The house has a large sitting room, with views over the garden, 2 large comfortable sofas, with woodburning stove and TV/dvd. Beyond that is a cosy TV room with open fire. The dining room has a large table and chairs and two windows overlooking the garden. Next door is the snug with a TV and sofa. The kitchen has a seating area with table and chairs and meals can be prepared using the traditional Aga (oil fired). It has a warm cosy feel. The back door opens onto a small patio area where we hang washing. A path leads to the main garden. The garden in spilt into two sections by the path. It's mostly lawned with flower beds. There is a patio area with BBQ, tables and chairs. We have a hot tub on a decking area, which we love. There is also a downstairs toilet/utility room. Upstairs we have 3 double bedrooms all with en suite bathrooms and 2 single rooms (our children's room) one of which has a an suite shower room. Cleaner 2 hrs pw. We have completely renovated our home over the 8 years we have lived here. We love where we live and would treat anyone else's home with respect.

More about us

  1. Chris and I have lived in the village for about 15 years and are both well known in this small friendly community. We have 2 sons aged 8 and 11. We used to run our house as a successful bed and breakfast for 6 years but are now it's purely our home. We love to travel and have friends and family overseas. We love the outdoors and Chris is a keen golfer and fisherman so can provide lots of local advice on these subjects if required. We heard about the home exchange through friends in our village who have done two successful exchanges. We are ideally looking for a holiday location for 1-2 weeks in the summer holidays (end of July/ August).

Where is it?

Belstone is a pretty village, dating back to the Doomsday, situated on the northern edge of Dartmoor, on the National Park in the heart of Devon. We are about 3 miles from the market town of Okehampton and 20 miles from the cathedral city of Exeter. Belstone is on Dartmoor so the main attraction is the amazing scenery and hiking. You can walk directly onto the moor from the village to enjoy Dartmoors 368 sq miles of untamed beauty. The location for the film Warhorse and setting for Sherlock Holmes and The Hound of the Baskervilles. Full of myths and legends. Horse riding if walking is not for you is available in the village. Visit the official website for lots more information. We have a good village pub, serving hearty meals and lots of other charming local pubs nearby. Belstones proximity to the A30 means it is also an excellent base to tour the rest of Devon and Cornwall. Close by are the Eden Project - 1 hr, surfing beaches of North Cornwall and 50 mins, stunning coastline, Castle Drogo - 20 mins, many other National Trust properties such as Killerton House, Cotehill, Lanhydrock, within easy driving distance. Lots of golf courses and fishing nearby. Excellent shopping/restaurants in Exeter.
