About our home

Our end terrace house is over 100 years old and was originally built for the station master. The old railway track is now a walk between local villages. It is situated in the beautiful dales village of Cotherstone, near Barnard Castle in the north east of England. Locally you can visit the fascinating Bowes Museum, a French style chateau and opened to the public since 1892. There are many wonderful country walks from Cotherstone and lots of history in the area. There are two pubs a church and a Quaker meeting house, in the village. One of the pubs sells papers and essentials like bread and milk. There is also a village hall which often has entertainment. Barnard Castle is a 10 minute drive away or can be reached by a long but beautiful walk, across fields by the river Tees or by bus. This is a small market town with the ruins of a 12th Century castle. The medieval Raby Castle which is the residence of Lord Barnard is also a short drive away. Most of the castle and grounds with deer park can be viewed by the public. This is a very different experience to the castle in the centre of Barnard Castle which is in ruins. Raby Castle shows a fine collection of furniture, artworks and elaborate architecture.

Our house is an hour from Newcastle airport, an hour and a half from Leeds Bradford airport and two and half hours from Manchester airport. A car is needed and would enable you to visit many interesting places in the area.

Upstairs we have two double bedrooms and one single child's room which has many toys for our Grandchildren. There is a main bathroom and en-suite with shower to the master bedroom.

Downstairs there is a large lounge, small sitting room we call the snug, kitchen diner and cloakroom with toilet. We have wifi connection and Sky T.V.

We love our home in the country with all the beautiful local walks. In the summer it is lovely and cool and in the winter we benefit from gas central heating, a log burner in the snug and a cosy coal fire in the main sitting room.
