“Painswick is like a storybook village.. Daniel’s little home was so charming and quaint, yet had every amenity we needed! The kitchen, decor and furnishings were lovely and the home was spit spot. We appreciated all the information about the area and the hikes. We absolutely loved our time there and would gladly go back again!”

About our home
*** please note the cottage has been refurbished so even better than the photographs and the garden has been totally re-landscaped with additional seating areas to take advantage of the view with Mediterranean style planting. Photos yet to be updated!
Located in the heart of old Painswick, which is a beautiful village on the western edge of the Cotswolds near Cheltenham. The cottage is located on one of the prettiest lanes, and enjoys extensive views across the Painswick valley from all its bedrooms and from its steep terraced garden.
Southview is ideally placed for exploring the surrounding countryside or visiting the many beautiful towns and villages of the Cotswolds. The famous Cotswold Way footpath, which runs from Bath to Chipping Campden, runs right through the village, and in addition the valley is riven by an extensive network of footpaths, many of which can be easily accessed from various places along the lane. If walking is too much effort, or to slake your thirst and satisfy your hunger after a ramble, a variety of great pubs and restaurants can be found within 5 minutes walk of the cottage, as can a well stocked convenience shop.
Southview has been lovingly renovated to highlight its traditional character features, namely exposing many Cotswold stone walls and oak beams, using wooden doors, and installing a wood burning stove in the original fireplace. Furthermore two additions to the original cottage greatly enhance the original character - a lovely steep wooden spiral staircase has been installed to give access to the first floor, and another steep staircase from the first floor climbs to the master bedroom in the eaves of the cottage. The interior has been stylishly decorated in a crisp country style that is a fusion of a sleek contemporary pared back look with a more traditional country cottage look.
As a result of not being situated opposite another cottage, Southview has stunning countryside views from all its bedrooms, and also the living room enjoys plenty of daylight (and even distant glimpses of the valley ridge). The views don’t stop there however - when the weather is agreeable then climb the steep steps of the garden up to the top terrace to enjoy the pièce de resistance: un-interrupted and far reaching views over the cottage itself of the Painswick Valley, its slopes resplendent in its livery of lush green fields, and its ridges lined by magnificent ancient mature beech woodlands (nearby Beech woodlands are designated special conservation areas).
The character of the cottage is complemented by its modern facilities, including wireless internet access, an internet-enabled flatscreen TV (for example allowing films to be viewed from a Netflix account), a Blu-Ray DVD player, a wireless music player compatible with modern smart phones, and a well equipped kitchen with a washer/dryer. The cottage sleeps a maximum of four people in two bedrooms, and has one bathroom. Please note that children under the age of 10 are not permitted at Southview. On street parking is freely available.
Southview is an ideal retreat for friends, couples or a family with older children looking for a peaceful getaway.

Daniel & Thea's reviews
As a host (6)“I did the exchange with Thea’s beautiful home for my brother and his family. The communication with Thea was so easy and quick right from the beginning. She was very accommodating and caring, she stayed in touch throughout their stay to make sure everything went well. My brother and his family were very thrilled to get a chance to stay in such a lovely place, beautifully and tastefully decorated, very well equipped and conveniently located - a good supermarket is very nearby. It is also a great location to base yourself for exploring the Cotswolds. My brother’s young children didn’t want to leave they thought Thea’s home was exactly what they pictured from a fairly tale book they have read :) They are from Thailand so a home in the Cotswolds to them is only in a dream- not a real world. We can’t thank Thea enough to allow our family to experience something so unique. And now we look forward to hosting Thea in our home. ”
“This was our second home swap and the house and location were perfect. Beautiful Painswick was just what we hoped for and ideally situated to explore the Cotswolds. There was so much to see and The Royal Oak pub around the corner was great for food and drinks. We had a day trip to Highclere Castle ( a long standing ambition ). The house was well equipped and beautifully furnished, we loved it. Thank you Thea. ”
“I fell in love with this delightful cottage and the gorgeous village of Painswick. If I could buy it I would. The home is beautifully appointed and has everything you could want. The kitchen is fabulous. I loved the layout of the house and how compact it was -so easy to keep tidy. Thea is a lovely host and gave me all the tips needed for a really lovely stay. And then there's the view -up a stairway through the back garden is a terrace with a knockout view of the farmlands surrounding -such a haven for breakfast or tea.”
“Everything about this visit went really well! Thea provided excellent instructions and the house was just perfect for our needs. The location worked really well for exploring the Cotswolds. Very handy to walk a block to the pub but nice and quiet location as well. Perfect fit for us three ladies.”
“Beautiful character cottage, in a beautiful lane, set in a perfect quintessential, English Cotswold village all within the stunning county of Gloucester. The Cottage has everything you need as does the village and great pubs, restaurants, markets and shopping found within the area. If you want to sample rural life in a rural English village, I think this would be hard to beat! Communication with Daniel was easy and a pleasure at all times. Cardynham house was one of our favourite places to eat in Painswick, fabulous food, great staff and prices. Falcon Inn too, as was the local pub The Royal Oak. All in all, a great break and we would recommend the cottage and village for a superb break. ”
