Old Ham Lodge is the old gardener's house of Ham House, a beautiful National Trust property on the river Thames in Richmond, London. Our house is on the doorstep of Richmond Park and near to Hampton Court, the river and everything London has to offer. It is a unique haven for enjoying London and yet being surrounded by history and beautiful English countryside.
The walk to Richmond along the river from our house is considered to be one of the most beautiful stretches of river in England and has remained unchanged for 200 years (Dickens used to walk and swim here). Richmond has excellent links to central London (25mins) and we are also easily reachable from Heathrow and Gatwick airports.
Old Ham Lodge has a beautiful courtyard in which we dine in the summer. In winter we use our woodburning stove in the cosy wood panelled sitting room. The house can sleep 8. It has a beamed entry hall, a music room with grand piano (we are both professional classical musicians), a study, a kitchen which opens onto the siting room with woodburning stove, four bedrooms - each with a decorative fireplace, a downstairs bathroom with a generous retro bath, additional wcs on the upper 2 landings and a shower on the top floor. The house is full of character: old panelling, beautiful antique sash windows with old glass, marble fireplaces, old tiles and decorated with period charm. The beamed kitchen is a wonderful place to cook as a family and is fully equipped. Each bedroom has beautiful views onto green, is blissfully quiet and you are most likely to wake up to the sound of horses from Ham House stables clopping by. The house has wifi. We have 3 young children ourselves so the house is well-stocked with games and toys.
We are in walking distance from the award winning Petersham Nurseries cafe, lovely restaurants of Richmond, and very near Hampton Court Palace and Kew Gardens as well as central London.
