About our home

The End Cottage was built in 17th century & has many of its original features still well preserved and intact. This is our first house & we very much enjoy the mixture of modern & vintage features. On the ground floor, we have a sitting room, with a big comfy sofa, which is facing beautiful wood burner (and less important TV), and a breakfast bar with two 'tractor seat' stools. Fully equipped kitchen is half a level down pass this sitting room. Kitchen has a view & access to the back garden, which is equipped with seating area. We have a BT cable tv, with number of various channels, including BT Sports and there's a good wifi throughout the house.

On the first floor, we have a smaller double bedroom - in here, there's day time bed, which is a single during the day and can be extended to a double for the night. There's a small landing and a bathroom on the first floor too.

On the second floor, we have our main bedroom with a super king size bed.

As you may be able to tell from the pictures, there is a lot of exposed wooden beams throughout our house. Number of these are fairly low and you will need to be careful not to hit your head if you're taller than us (I'm 175 cm and I just get away with it). Stairways are rather narrow & possibly steep, so you need to be careful again. You'll also need to be fairly fit to be able to go up and down the stairs.

There is also a garage at the back of the garden, which is full of 'stuff', while parking is available anywhere on the street around the house - there are no parking restrictions.

More about us

  1. We are a married couple in mid 30s & we love travelling & exploring. We both work in London and travel there and back daily. I, Vilem, enjoy football, motorbikes & heavy music. Lucy, my wife, likes horseriding & cooking cakes for me :-) We've been to most countries around Asia and number of other places, but there's still so much more to see. We've already completed exchanges to San Francisco & New Zealand, and when not on an exchange, we rent out our spare room via Air B&B where we are "superhosts" & you can tell from our reviews we'd treat your place as nice as you'd like us to (search for Rotherfield, you'll find us).

  2. Lucy works in project management for world famous company, while Vilem works in children's social care. As we still work, we're only able to exchange for maximum of 2 / 3 weeks.

Where is it?

We live in a little village called Rotherfield, East Sussex, which is about 2 miles away from Crowborough and 7 miles south of Tunbridge Wells, of Kent. Our village has two pubs - Kings Arms & The Catts Inn. We've been to Kings Arms many times as this is less than 100 steps from our house. Lovely old looking pub with great food. There's also a little cafe in the village, again 1 minute walk away. There's couple of hairdressers, antique shops & little local grocery store. For any other shopping you'd need to go to Crowborough or Tunbridge Wells.

We are about one hour drive south east of London and we both commute to London every day for work. London is also accessible from Crowborough train station, about 2 miles from the house. Crowborough to London is a direct train and takes about an hour.

On our days off, we tend to head away from London. There's beautiful Ashdown Forest few minutes drive away, nice tows of Tunbridge Wells or Lewes not far either. We often head towards the south coast, which is about 40 minutes drive away. There's lot of country walks around us, lovely country pubs, number of old traditional villages such as Mayfield or Battle.
