My wife and I moved into a three-bedroom, penthouse apartment on top of the Warehouse building in London’s Royal Arsenal Riverside development in late August 2011. The building had just been completed and we are the first people to live in the apartment.
The Warehouse is a collection of new apartments and penthouses combining a stylish warehouse feel with all of the convenience and comforts of a new build home. It offers cool, high specification urban living in this prime location in the heart of the Arsenal. Our apartment is on the top of the South-facing end of the six-storey building. It has over 70 m3 of wood-decked terrace, with no oversight from other buildings. On one side, it overlooks the Thames, including views of the 2012 Olympic stadium, the Thames Barrier and the high-rise buildings of the Docklands’ business centre. The apartment has open-plan kitchen-dining-living areas. We have equipped the two minor bedrooms as offices. We have a parking space in the basement car park, below the building. Our apartment has the following specifications:
High-gloss, white handle-free base and wall unit doors
Black Granite worktop with matching upstands
Full height stainless steel splashback behind hob
Stainless steel undermounted single bowl sink with grooved drainer to worktop and monobloc mixer tap

Integrated, multi-function, Bosch dishwasher
Shower room & En-Suite

The Royal Arsenal Riverside is London’s largest integrated, residential development. It includes both the renovation of historic buildings (some dating from the late 1600s) and bold new modern architecture. The Arsenal offers excellent services & communications links:
* 24 hour concierge service
* Only 300 metres to overground and DLR stations (i.e. two different railway systems * providing access all over London).
* Thames Clipper (London’s river bus system). The pier can be seen from our terrace and is about 200 m away, at the end of our pedestrian avenue.
* New ‘gastro’ pub and restaurant, house in a John-Vanbrug-designed brick building from 1764. It’s located directly below the terrace of our apartment.
* Tesco Express (mini-supermarket) 150 m away
* Residents' gym (24 hours) in building next to ours, about 300 m away.
* Two Museums on site, with café and bistro
* Green open spaces
* Riverside walks
* Health and wellbeing studio
* Over 1,700 homes at Royal Arsenal Riverside.
My wife is Swedish. We met while I was taking my PhD at Stockholm University (hence our desire to spend at at least a month per summer in Stockholm). For the last 20 years we've run a PR agency for Swedish multi-nationals, such as Volvo Trucks, SKF, Sandvik & Alfa Laval. We moved to this apartment, from a 5-bedroom house in a village outside Cambridge, as part of our 'multi-phase' retirement plan. We've done 10+ previous home exchanges.
Our objective is to make three exchanges each year: first for 6-8 weeks in the Winter on the Southern Spanish coast, second for a month in the Summer in Stockholm and third, for 6-8 weeks in the Autumn in Spain, Northern Italy or the South of France.
