About our home

We live in an extended and fully modernised 18th century stone cottage located in a quiet village at the side of Rudyard Lake.
The cottage has 2 double bedrooms (one with en-suite shower) and a third combined study/bedroom with sofa bed . There is a separate bathroom.
Alongside the house is a sunny patio area. The upper garden has far-reaching views of the Pennine hills.
The house is centrally heated and has a woodburning stove. We have a lounge, separate dining room and a kitchen with modern appliances.


More about us

  1. Our family
    We have 3 grown up children who no longer live at home. Brian taught at a local high school and writes educational books. He is a keen mountain walker. He sails his boat and fishes the Lake. He is currently walking the South West Coastal Path. Sue retired from an advisory teaching post (SEN) She practises Pilates, sings with a U3A group, is part of a reading group and spends as much time as possible with her grandchildren.
    We enjoy eating out in the many local inns and we regularly go to the cinema and theatre. 
    We like to spend time with our family, their children and our elderly parent.

  2. We have recently sold a holiday home in Charente Maritime, France in order to explore more areas of the world, especially New Zealand where our daughter is now living. We plan to visit Napier, New Zealand in February/ March 2019 and would like a non or simultaneous exchange for any number of weeks during that period. We appreciate that those months are not appealing in the Uk so could offer our home in June 2019.
    A car is necessary, although the village is served by public transport several times a day and this links to mainline stations in Stoke On Trent and Macclesfield.

  3. Our lifestyle is that of anyone choosing to live in a country village--- love of the countryside, walking, fishing and gardening. We join our neighbours at various activities, including a reading group, Women's Institute, social evenings in the village hotel and walking.

Where is it?


We live in a tourist village of 200 people in the Staffordshire Moorlands. We are on the edge of the Peak District National Park. We live metres from a lake where fishing, sailing and walking are available. We are surrounded by many way marked walks locally and within the Derbyshire hills. We are 4 km from the town of Leek with all the usual amenities including a Saturday antiques market.
