About our home

We've now arranged accomodation for holidays in 2006, so we'd welcome ideas for 2007 - up to 12 days around Easter 30 March to 15 April 2007, up to 17 days around late July / August, and up to 8 days the last week in October 2007.
Our house is a spacious 4 bedroom detached property in a delightful country village. It has a large private rear garden, with a brick built BBQ, large patio / terrace, outbuilding, trampoline and 15' above ground pool. Inside there is a large reception hall / music room with piano and stereo, a living room with open fire and satellite TV, and a second living room with a woodburning stove and patio doors into the back garden. There's also a dining room, a kitchen with all appliances and a downstairs loo. Upstairs, 4 double bedrooms (1 with bunks), with delightful views over open countryside, and two bathrooms (one en-suite with the master bedroom, that also has a balcony).

More about us

  1. There are four of us in the family - Mark (Dad) works in London, and enjoys music, reading and walking in the small amount of spare time he gets.
Diane (Mum) looks after us all, including the two dogs (Nancy the longhaired JRT, and Bumble the big soft black lab) and also runs a small mobile hairdressing business. Lydia (14) and Lucy (12) are pupils at the local Grammar School, where they both enjoy the work, and many sporting and social acivities. We all like travelling, and meeting people, and have houseswapped before from our old house near Edinburgh in Scotland - but not since we moved back to England. We had two of our best holidays swapping, and are keen to try it again.

The dates entered on the site are for a guide only - we are tied to the school holidays, so would like to try and get 12 days away in early April 2007 (Easter next year) 14-17 days in July/August next year, 2007, and finally 7-10 days in late October 2007 (half-term for English schools).

Where is it?

The neighbourhood is quiet, but friendly. There are countless easy country walks on the doorstep. The local pub (0.5 miles away) is an excellent venue to meet the villagers, or just have a nice quiet meal and drink. Saffron Walden, a delightful, quintessentially English medieval market town is about 5 miles away by car, and the ancient university city of Cambridge is 18 miles away. We are just 2 miles from the railway station with an excellent service to London (60 minutes) and Cambridge (20 minutes). Only 13 miles from London's Stansted airport makes for easy access to / from all of Europe, and elsewhere, on the budget airlines.
It is statistically the least populated area of the SE of England, set in beautiful rolling countryside, peppered with picturesque English village greens, pubs and thatched cottages. On the other hand, you are 60 minutes from the buzzing metropolis of London - the best of both worlds!
