About our home

Our period house in Torquay was originally built in the late 1890's and has had many uses over the years. Originally built as a Gentlemans' Residence, it has also served as a Hotel and Holiday Rentals. In addition to our 4 bedroomed accommodation we also have a double bedroomed self-contained annexe downstairs which could be used as part of the house swap, ideal if you are bringing other family/friends with you.

We are a 15 minute stroll from the seafront and the harbour and 10 minutes from the train station, there is a bus stop directly outside of the house which runs into Torquay and St Marychurch. We are a 20 minute drive from Exeter, 35 minutes to Plymouth and Dartmoor. Torquay town centre has many shops and a large selection of bars and restaurants to choose from. There are lots of local attractions which are open all year round, to cater for all ages and all weathers.

The house is fully equipped with a large range cooker, microwave, dishwasher, plenty of fridge and freezer space, washing machine and tumble dryer. We have 3 double bedrooms, all ensuite, and a twin bedded room (which also has a z-bed which can be moved in to any room). We have flat screen TV connected to cable in the main lounge and both Xbox 360 and Xbox 1. We also have wifi. Our house is upside down to make use of the stunning views we have over Torquay, and outside of our lounge there is a decked seating area. Our lawned garden is accessed via steps. Parking for 2 cars is available on the driveway.

We have a cat (who rules the house!!) and we would ask that you feed her daily.

  1. We are a family of 4, with 2 teenage children, and a cat . Our daughter (19) is away at University and our son (16) is currently studying Marine Engineering at College. They usually both travel with us.

  2. After many years of running our own businesses we now both work part-time for a large supermarket , Andrew as a delivery driver and Amanda in customer service.

  3. We have been slowly renovating our home since moving in 11 years ago (nearly finished!!), we enjoy spending time together as a family and making the most of the many beautiful places to visit in Devon . We are always wanting to visit new places and sometimes travel with extended family.

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

We are in Chelston which is a Conservation Area of Torquay. Nearby (within walking distance) there is a Co-op supermarket and numerous take-aways who will deliver. We are a 15 minute stroll down to the seafront and harbour where you will find lots of bars, restaurants and cafes catering for all tastes, some with live music most nights. From Torquay you can catch a ferry to Brixham or go on a fishing trip, and in high season we have a large funfair and the 'Torquay Eye' big wheel. The seaside towns of Paignton, Teignmouth and Dawlish are a short drive or train journey away. The Cathedral City of Exeter has lots of modern shops and is an hour by train or 30 minutes by car. Plymouth is a 40 minute drive and also has a good shopping centre. There is always loads to do as you would expect in a holiday town, both during summer and winter.
