About our home

Our house is about 20 years old. There are four bedrooms, although the smallest tends to get used for personal items and all those bits and pieces that don't have a home anywhere else! The master bedroom has an ensuite bathroom, with power shower, and a king size bed. The other two bedrooms have double beds and share a family bathroom (bath, with shower over). Downstairs, the lounge leads into a conservatory and we virtually live in there, winter and summer. There's a study (with computer and WiFi broadband access), a dining room, fully equipped kitchen and downstairs WC. The utility room leads out into an enclosed garden - garden furniture, barbecue etc. There is plenty of space for a couple of cars on the drive.

More about us

  1. We have 1 very friendly 8 year old cat who need little attention apart from a few cuddles (daily)!. Boarding at a cattery can be arranged in some circumstances.

    Additional Information

Luckily we have taken early retirement so can be fairly flexible about where we go, and when. However, if the exchange is for a week or so, then probably not more than a maximum of 3-4 hours travel time would be ideal. We are planning to walk the Cleveland Way at some stage so an exchange in North Yorkshire could be good.

Where is it?

This is a modern house in a spacious small development within a village environment. Luckily, we've hung on to the post office/store and even the village pub. The Peak District National Park is about 40 minutes drive (did you know that well over a third of the Peak District actually lies within Staffordshire?), whilst Stoke on Trent, the home of the potteries industry and Josiah Wedgwood, is just twenty minutes by car. That provides lots of opportunity for retail therapy at the many factory shops, but there's also factory tours, museums, exhibitions and the old bottle kilns to keep you interested for a while. Ironbridge Gorge, the home of the 18th century start of the industrial revolution and of the first iron bridge to be constructed (over the river Severn), is also nearby; again, numerous different museums and interpretive sites to be visited.

We live about midway between Manchester (40 minutes) and Birmingham (with all their cultural and shopping outlets). Chester is a fine example of a Roman town, Nantwich continues the theme of black and white timbered buildings, Cannock Chase gives a bit of fresh air to blow those cobwebs away. There really is a surprising amount to do and see in this area. There are three golf courses within 5 miles of the village and several more , not too far away.
