About our home

We built our stunning contemporary home in 2009 in a woodland village which is only 15 minutes from the beautiful east Devon coastline. Our house is located in a very quiet spot within a woodland village where houses are dotted amongst varied mixed woodland areas.

Although our village has a very good shop and post office, the nearby town of Ottery St Mary (the birthplace of Samuel Taylor Coleridge) offers much more extensive facilities including a supermarket.

Devon is a beautiful and highly varied county with quite magnificent countryside and very popular with visitors from within the UK and Europe. The historic city of Exeter is only 20 minutes drive with many shops, boutiques, restaurants and cafes. Also nearby are Exmouth with its extensive sandy beach and boat trips up the River Exe and along the stunning Jurassic coastline; lovely small seaside towns such as Sidmouth, Topsham, Budleigh Salterton; many delightful country villages and lots of beautiful countryside.

An hour or two to the west, beyond Plymouth, lies Cornwall, a hugely popular holiday destination, with a multitude of things to see and do far too extensive to list here. The north coast of Cornwall, in particular, offers decent surfing. Our location on the south coast of England means that the weather is often good and usually better than the rest of the country.

The area is great for kids with sea, beaches, river and woodland walks, cycling, wind surfing and adventure parks locally and further afield to name but a few. If you enjoy sport there is Premiership rugby in Exeter, six football league clubs and county cricket within an hour or so by car.

Travel to the bigger cities of Bristol and Cardiff an hour or so to the north offers many other things to do and lots of additional shopping opportunities for those so inclined.

Exeter to London is only a 2hour 10 minute train journey opening the door to all that the capital city has to offer you. We live approximately 2.5 hours by car from both Heathrow and Gatwick airports.

This is also an excellent base to travel across the UK and also only 2 hours to Wales. We are also only 15 minutes from Exeter airport with good value flights across the UK including daily flights from London City airport.

In summary, well located for some of the best weather and holiday areas in the UK, we are also perfectly located if you want to spend some time travelling around the country by road, rail or air.
