About our home

Our 4 bedroom terraced home is in a quiet leafy street in easy walking distance to the centre of Abingdon on Thames. The house is Victorian with a number of period features. The sitting area is bright and airy with plenty of space for families or friends to spread out, socialise and relax. The modern kitchen diner extension has bifold doors that open on to a 100 foot long garden with patio, pizza oven, and gas BBQ. At the far end of the garden is a small children's play area with trampoline, sandpit and football goal.

We have 3 double rooms and a room with bunk beds spread over three floors. On the ground floor there is also a utility room and toilet. On the first floor there is a large, modern family bathroom.

We've lived here for 6 years and absolutely love the area. It's a ten minute walk to a lovely market square with shops, cafes and some gorgeous pubs right on the river. There a beautiful local park with the ruins of an old abbey and with a fantastic adventure playground, splash park and outdoor pool, just ten minutes walk away. The park backs on to the Thames River and is lined with canal boats, and paths for walking.

It is a 3 minute walk to the bus to Oxford (approx 20 minutes depending on traffic) so or home is a perfect spot for frequent day trips. Oxford is a hub of language schools and holiday clubs for those wanting to combine holidays with study. The Cotswolds and London are also easy day trips from Abingdon.

Central London is just 55 mins by train from our local train station (5 min drive or 10 min bus ride away). Many of our neighbours commute to London from here daily.

We're a family of 5 with young children so are set up for visitors with children. There is also plenty of space for adults. We're a non-smoking, shoes of household and ask that you treat our home accordingly.

Neighbourhood

Abingdon-on-Thames is a delightful historic market town set in picturesque countryside. The town is five miles from Oxford, (with frequent public transport) and a 55 minute train ride from London. The central square boasts an architecturally unique town hall dating to the late 17th century, not more than a minute's walk from the river Thames. There are wonderful parks and river walks, a splash park and an out-door swimming pool right next to the river. Our house is on a quiet residential street only five minute's walk from the town centre. There you will find plenty of excellent local restuarants, some welcoming pubs, a small cinema, and the ruins of an ancient abbey.

Buzzy restaurants
The Crown & Thistle Hotel serves excellent food, although for a summer'.s evening what better way to enjoy the countryside than to sit and dine on an island in the middle of the River Thames in the Nag's Head pub?
Cool bars
Plenty of bars open until late, including the Pablo Lounge cocktail bar on the town square.
Cozy cafés
For rest and recuperation, head to R&R cafe, an independent coffee shop on the main square.
Retail therapy
If you want shopping, take the train or bus into Oxford and the many delights of the Westgate Centre, or take the train into London, only a one hour journey into the city centre.
Bit of culture
Abingdon is the longest continually inhabited town in England. King Henry the 8th used to visit frequently, coming upriver from his London Palaces. You can also explore the ruins of the abbey, or head into Oxford to see the university and the
Walks in the park
Abbey Meadows is a large green area on the banks of the Thames. You can wander along the river, as far as you wish along the towpath.
Spot of exercise
Take a run along the Thames, or hire a tennis court (indoor and out-door) at the White Horse Leisure Centre, 2 minutes drive from our house. There is also an indoor pool there, and a separate out-door heated swimming pool on the banks fo the Thames. Small kids will love the splash park next door.
Day tripping
Take a trip into historic Oxford, or go further afield into the rural idyll of the Cotswolds. Alternatively, get to central London on the train, a 55 minute journey from Radley station (five minute's drive from our house, by bus or car)
