About our home

No longer looking for a swap for 2018 - open to offers in 2019

We are looking for a family swap somewhere near a beach for a couple of weeks in the school summer hols 2019. We are thinking Greece, Spain, Italy, France. Maybe Florida, New York, Australia, Africa. Open to suggestions though, so the list is not exhaustive.

Our family house is in a very desirable, safe and child friendly part of suburban London. It has a fantastic location just off the high street in a quiet residential road. The high street is 50m away with it's local pubs, friendly restaurants and boutique shops. There are also a couple of chain stores for food shopping. Teddington is on the Thames and you can walk or cycle along the river to Richmond or Kingston for a bit of retail therapy. Trains to London are 6 an hour, take about 30 mins and the train station is just 250m from our front door. We have 2 huge Royal Parks nearby - Richmond Park and Bushy Park. Both are scenic and safe and have wild deer. Hampton Court Palace and Kew Gardens are nearby for day trips. Stonehenge is just down the motorway. Like theme parks? No problem, we've got 3 - Chessington World of Adventures, Thorpe Park, Legoland. And of course there is London. You can't get bored.

Our house has just been renovated at the rear to provide a large modern kitchen, dining, lounge area. The master bedroom is on the top floor with an en-suite. The 1st floor has 3 kids rooms and 2 bathrooms - we have 3 kids, we could easily accommodate 5. Really the house is better set up as a family rather than a group of adults staying. On the ground floor we have a playroom, a piano room, our new family room plus kitchen and a separate utility room and loo.

We have all mod cons, cable tv, superfast internet, chromecast, xbox, underfloor heating, alarm, etc etc. You only need a car if you plan to sightsee outside of London. In 20 years we could count on one hand the number of times we've driven into London. Public transport is frequent, easier, and a lot less hassle.

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

Buzzy restaurants
Lots of family friendly restaurants in the area. From pizza express & nandos to gastro pubs from well known restauranteers
Cool bars
Plenty of local pubs in the area, not sure I'd describe them as cool
Cozy cafés
Again, lots of cafe's from Starbucks to local independents
Retail therapy
Teddington has lots of boutique shops and a couple of chains, but if you want retail therapy Kingston / Richmond is a few miles away else there is always London itself.
Bit of culture
Kew Gardens and Hampton Court Palace all within easy reach
Walks in the park
2 huge royal parks to enjoy, Bushy Park and Richmond Park
Spot of exercise
Walks down the river, bike rides, local swimming pool round the corner, parks to run in. Not short of options
Day tripping
London obviously. Stonehenge. Kew Gardens. Hampton Court Palace. Windsor Castle. For the kids there is always Legoland, Chessington World of Adventures or Thorpe Park. Spoilt for choice.
