About our home

Apartment in Manchester, Great Britain

We live in a large, 3 bedroom apartment on the outskirts of Manchester in a semi-rural, very desirable neighbourhood. Our apartment is one of 30 and is situated in a tree-lined gated community that overlooks a golf course. It is very quiet. We have a caretaker and fantastic neighbours who are always ready to help with any slight problem or piece of advice. It is a very safe close-knit community.

Public transport is plentiful and is right on our doorstep. The city centre is just a bus or tram ride away and we can negotiate using our car if we are abroad during your stay. Being at the heart of Great Britain there is much to see and from where we live it is very simple to get to. Manchester International Airport is 8 minutes drive away from our apartment and we are not on the flight-path, the toll-free motorway (freeway/autoroute) is just a mile away. This will carry you to the historic cities of Chester and York, 1 and 2 hours away respectively, into the Lake District, home to the poet Wordsworth, the Peak District, mystical Wales is 1 hour from us and the borders of Scotland just 2.5. With plenty of stately homes to view, lakes and rivers to sail on and fish, hills and meadows to walk, tea shops to visit both around us and further afield, you will never be bored. And, if you have to go to London it is only 2 hours 10 minutes away by train.

Locally, in Didsbury 15 minutes walk, there is plenty on offer with shopping, pubs, bars, restaurants, parks and gardens. For the dedicated golfer, there are three 18 hole golf courses, one of which is overlooked by our apartment, the others are within easy walking distance. But if you want the high life Manchester is the place for you. Steeped in Victorian history, it is the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, it is a city that is easy to walk around. The stores boast all the major international designer brands, the cosmopolitan restaurants have a gourmet range of foods from all over the world and the old pubs are a wonder to behold. We have museums and art galleries, ancient and modern, the gay village, great clubs for the dancers and coffee houses for those looking for a quiet rest.

We are both retired. Our children flew the nest many years ago. We live alone in our comfortably equipped apartment. If you like music we have a first-rate, high quality music streaming system.

We are now getting the hang of exchanging and we are looking forward to our next adventure in 2019.

I am sure you will have a special time here. Northern folk are wonderful.

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

Didsbury is in a much sought after, leafy suburb of the great city of Manchester. It has two main parts; there is Didsbury Village with many well-known shops and cafes mixed in with is upmarket bars, restaurants and specialist shops and West Didsbury which has an altogether more independent feel about. Both areas are in easy walking distance from where we live.

Buzzy restaurants
The restaurants in Didsbury Village and West Didsbury cater for every taste. In the Village you will find Gusto and Croma for Italian food, Indian, The Third Eye and the Janern Kitchen serving Thai, and in West Didsbury, Spanish tapas at Volta and high-end dining at the Lime Tree and the excellent vegetarian Greens, just around the corner. And 5 minutes walk from us is Albert's.
Cool bars
There are many bars in both areas to choose from. West Didsbury has the The George Charles, Saison and Mary & Archie, One Lounge Bar, Hula West or the mighty Metropolitan. In Didsbury, try The Botanist, The Slug and Lettuce and Fress for cocktails. If you want to drink in traditional British pubs then go to The Royal Oak in the Village and The Railway inn in West Didsbury.
Cozy cafés
Rustik
Retail therapy
There are specialist clothes, jewellery and food shops again that met every taste but Central Manchester is the place to go. It is always full of bargains galore for fashion, sports and objets d'art
Bit of culture
Historic Manchester has the usual museums and art galleries holding significant collections but Manchester was the centre of the Victorian Industrial Revolution and there is much to see and do.
Walks in the park
We have a park 2 minutes walk away. It is in memory of a small girl who died in early age. It offers peace and tranquility.
Spot of exercise
The River Mersey is also 2 minutes away and you are in open country. There is a small gym 15 minutes walk and we live on top of one 18 hole golf course and there are two more just 10 minutes walk as the ball fly.
Day tripping
Go to North Wales, the Lake District, Chester, York, The Peak District. Get temporary membership of The National Trust founded to look places of historic interest and natural beauty and there are thousands of them. And then more.
