About our home

The cottage dates back to the 18th century but after extensive renovation now has the advantages of a modern house whilst keeping the character of its past. Although in the centre of Totnes we are tucked away so it is very quiet and private. A short passageway leads from the high street to our patio and entrance, into an all seasons conservatory which acts as hallway and utility room, a great place to dry wet-suits and sailing kit! Double doors open into the lounge with open fire. Also on the ground floor is a double-bed bedroom with walk in cupboard, and separate bathroom. Upstairs is a spacious kitchen/diner/sitting room; double doors open onto a private roof garden. The other double-bed bedroom is on this floor and has a sleeping platform that houses the bed, with dressing room/shower/basin and separate toilet below it.

Totnes on the River Dart in Devon is in a prime position for exploring the south west of England with its stunning coastline, many beaches and beautiful countryside.

Totnes history dates back to Saxon times and its origins are reflected in its architectural and cultural heritage. It has a very popular weekly open air market and a variety of individual and interesting shops, restaurants, wine bars, pubs and coffee shops. With its warm friendly ambience Totnes has been described as one of UK's top destinations. High speed rail links the town with all major cities in the UK, only 3 hours to London, three nearby airports and the Plymouth to Roscoff (France) cross channel ferry.

Theatre, dance and arts lovers can enjoy shows at Dartington Hall, surrounded by beautiful gardens only 5 mins away; the Theatre Royal in Plymouth and the cathedral city of Exeter are 45mins by car

For the more active, walking and exploring ancient tors on nearby Dartmoor with its foreboding scenery is a must, or golfing on a choice of four local courses, canoeing and sailing on the river Dart and off the coast is also available.
We would consider non-simultaneous exchange if we were not able to co-ordinate simultaneous exchange dates. We can also be reasonably flexible on dates.

More about us

  1. We're a retired couple in our 60s with grown up children no longer at home.

  2. My working life was spent in varying aspects of education and Tim's varied life ranged from design, overseas consultancy, property developing to retailing

  3. We love walking, sailing, golf (Tim), theatre (Gilly), generally enjoying life and, of course, travelling. We spent five months 2 years ago exploring India, Sri Lanka, Thailand and New Zealand, where our son lives and where we heard about house swapping - and have been swapping ever since!
