About our home

Ours is a comfortable, easily cared for home, about 10 minutes walk from the seafront. The house is nicely decorated with carpets throughout. The kitchen is fully fitted with all modern appliances. The bathroom contains a shower unit, bath and handbasin whilst the separate toilet also contains a handbasin. It has a large lounge diner with tv, digital recorder and dvd player; patio doors lead onto the terrace, with a brick built BBQ, and garden. A smaller intimate lounge with digital tv and radio/cd player has a large picture window overlooking the garden. The main and second bedroom have completely fitted wardrobes and dressing tables whilst the third bedroom has a fitted wardrobe, a single bed and the computer with a printer. The house has full double glazing, loft and wall insulation and gas central heating. Making it a very warm and comfortable home in the winter!!! A comfortable 5 seater Citroen Picasso Exclusive is available for exchange. This is housed in a single detached garage with a drive for parking up-to 4 cars. Shops, pubs, restaurants and public transport are close by.

More about us

  1. We are John and Vivienne and are both retired. Over the years we have been involved in clubs in the community, including Round Table(Apex in Australia), and ladies cycle, and the church. Travel has always played a great part in our lives and have been fortunate enough to visit many places around the world. John enjoys a game of golf, but most sports these days ere enjoyed just watching. Vivienne has been involved in the guiding movement for over 30 years. We are non smokers and would ask any smokers to smoke outside. There are no pets to look after, only house plants (if you go away they have to take their chance) to look after. We have completed 13 exchanges and have made many friends and look forward to making many more. Our friends here will help in making your stay very enjoyable. Our daughter, who has a small house in Braintree, Essex, usually joins us for 3 to 4 weeks and would also make her house available but she does have a cat that needs looking after(her neighbor will do this if you go away). We will look after your home and leave it as you would wish to find it.

Where is it?

We live in the historic town of Deal, which is a 30 minute drive from the cathedral city of Canterbury and 2 hour from London. Along the seafront you will find two castles. The one only 200 yards from the town centre was built in tudor times about 1550. The other only 6 or 7 minute walk from the house was built in the 17th century is famous for being the home of the Duke of Wellington and is now the home of the 'Lord Warden of the cinqu ports' when he/she visits the area. Sir Robert Menzies and the late Queen Mother are 2 of the more well known holders of this position. Some areas of Deal, especially near the seafront date back 100's of years and are full of interesting streets and buildings. Ten minutes drive away is Dover with a castle that overlooks probably one of the busiest ports in the world. From here, by ferry, you can quickly be in Europe, and from Calais be in Paris in 3 hours. We sometimes just pop over to France for the day, have lunch and then return home!!!From Dover you can also join the motorway system to any part of England, Scotland or Wales. Within five miles of Deal there are three championship golf courses including Royal St. Georges where the English open is held. For us lesser players there are 7 other courses within a 20 mile radius. Deal is not a 'touristy' area with theme parks, but very laid back with good sporting facilities including bowls, tennis, fishing, horse riding, walking over the famous white cliffs of Dover. Besides the numerous pubs serving good beer and food there are many restaurants of different nationalities.
