Our home is a comfy, traditional thatched cottage built at the beginning of the last century, separated from 2000 acres of golden sands by just one field. Less than a mile away, West Wittering beach itself is stunning and very busy in the summer, but where we are there is no vehicle access so even at the height of the season the wide, beautiful sandy beach is safe and quiet. If you want to drive to the busy bit with all the ice creams and tourists we will leave our free pass to the car park. We love the outdoors and while our home has every modern facility (except a microwave), it is hardy and not pristine and we are happy for you to bring kids, dogs, wetsuits etc. We have added a wet room and utility so when you come back from the beach you go straight in the side door, throw all the wet stuff at the washing machine and dive into the shower. The south facing garden has a large shed, half is the children's den (with sleeping mattresses, curtains and fairy lights) and half is storage for bikes, boards, buckets and spades, life jackets etc. Inside the house is centrally heated, with an additional (gas) wood burning stove in the living room and Aga in the kitchen / breakfast room (no microwave). We have three good sized bedrooms, one with super king bed and two with small double beds and a fourth single room with a comfy single bed. Though our house is semi-detached, the other half is a holiday home and rarely occupied meaning there is no-one overlooking the house.
We would like any guests to be willing to look after Reema and Ben, our friendly dogs and Oscar the cat (dogs who won't eat the cat are welcome). We will leave our car if swapping via flights abroad - handy if you fancy exploring areas like the New Forest, Brighton area, or having a weekend in Devon or Dorset.
West Wittering is best known for its beautiful beach and great for sailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing and surfing. We will generally leave our surf boards, long boards and SUP (paddle) boards for your use. Chichester Marina is about three miles north if you are interested in sailing and the world famous Chichester Festival Theatre is in the nearest city about 8 miles away. Goodwood motor circuit and horse racing is about another five miles. Bosham harbour, where Canute apparently drove back the sea, is about fifteen minutes away by car or a stunning ten minute cycle along the coast with a little ferry ride at the end. Fishbourne Roman Palace and the Weald and Downland Open Air museum, which houses the original West Wittering School (about two hundred years old) are an easy drive. West Wittering has a great pub and restaurant, church, great butchers and a couple of convenience stores as well as a surf school, beach clothes shop and restaurants. About a mile away, East Wittering has more shops, banks, bars and everything you can need really!
I live in West Wittering with my two daughters, and teach Pilates and nutrition. We spend a lot of time at the beach, both my teenage girls love surfing and riding - we walk across the field to the stables - and my older daughter loves flying her power kite at the beach. My younger daughter is a triathlete and the area is perfect for running, sea swimming and road or mountain biking. Hobbies also include biking and swimming. Our holidays are mostly spent in our old VW camper van in Devon, Cornwall, Wales and in the summer we take her down to South West France for more surf!
