About our home

Modernised large detached bungalow set in half acre of landscaped garden with nice views of countryside. Exceptionally quiet, yet within 1 Km of shops and amenities.

If you come to stay with us as a non-simultaneous swap, we will offer you hospitality. Your guest bedroom is a large recently furnished double with separate bathroom to us and you will find it comfortable and exceptionally quiet. We have a large dining room, attached Victorian style conservatory and study. Towards the middle of the house are Kitchen, lounge and utility leading to double garage.

We also have a nice deck (see picture), which is a very nice sunny spot overlooking our garden pond to sit outside when it's sunny or to have a BBQ.

More about us

  1. We are a semi retired couple based near Oxford in the UK. We have a daughter and Grandson living in Townsville, Queensland. Our interests include all aspects of natural history, especially Australian fauna (because it is so different from ours) and we have special interests in Birds and Fossils.

We visited Australia in 2012, 2014 and 2016 (included NZ) and our next visit is from Nov 19 to Jan 20. We plan to visit New Zealand S Island for 4 weeks from mid Nov ad hope to spend about a week in 4 locations.

So far, we have completed 7 hospitality exchanges in Australia and 4 in New Zealand (all very successful) and we hope also to conduct exchanges within Europe or elsewhere in the future.

  2. Alan is a scientific consultant working in Pharmaceuticals. Petula is a retired medical secretary.

Where is it?

We live on the outskirts of a village in Oxfordshire, with the benefits of a rural aspect and yet within 20 minutes from Oxford, home of the oldest university in the English-speaking world.

Buildings in Oxford demonstrate examples of every English architectural period since the arrival of the Saxons, including the iconic, mid-18th-century Radcliffe Camera. Oxford is known as the "city of dreaming spires", a term coined by poet Matthew Arnold in his poem Thyrsis, referring to the harmonious architecture of Oxford's university buildings. There are many museums in Oxford, our personal favourite is the universityNatural History museum which we believes even eclipses the famous London NHM.

Meanwhile, in Wheatley we have all essential local amenities, a bird of prey visitor centre literally next door, plenty of olde worlde pubs and the famous Waterperry, gardens a 15 minute drive away. The country side of Oxfordshire is, in our view as good as anywhere in England. We are also very close to both motorway and bus link to London, which can be reached within the hour.
