“We felt very comfortable with Alan and Petula when they stayed with us on a hospitality exchange; sharing many common interests and interesting conversations. When we stayed with Alan and Petula they shared some of their favorite places and were helpful in recommending placed of particular interest to us, and we were able to relax in their large garden allotment on the edge of the village. Wheatley on the outskirts of Oxford is an interesting old village with a fascinating history, well situated for many interests, buses to London every 15 minutes, childhood home of the current prime minister! We were warmly received and felt welcome and are happy to recommend Alan and Petula for future exchanges.”

Where is it?
We live on the outskirts of a village in Oxfordshire, with the benefits of a rural aspect and yet within 20 minutes from Oxford, home of the oldest university in the English-speaking world.
Buildings in Oxford demonstrate examples of every English architectural period since the arrival of the Saxons, including the iconic, mid-18th-century Radcliffe Camera. Oxford is known as the "city of dreaming spires", a term coined by poet Matthew Arnold in his poem Thyrsis, referring to the harmonious architecture of Oxford's university buildings. There are many museums in Oxford, our personal favourite is the universityNatural History museum which we believes even eclipses the famous London NHM.
Meanwhile, in Wheatley we have all essential local amenities, a bird of prey visitor centre literally next door, plenty of olde worlde pubs and the famous Waterperry, gardens a 15 minute drive away. The country side of Oxfordshire is, in our view as good as anywhere in England. We are also very close to both motorway and bus link to London, which can be reached within the hour.
