Our lovely contemporary style 2,250 square feet detached four bedroom house is located within walking distance of the centre of the picturesque English city of Winchester (winner of the Sunday Times and BBC "Best Place to Live in Britain" 2016).
Our house was extended and completely renovated in 2015. We created a spacious, light and airy family kitchen / dining / snug area which is undoubtedly the hub of the home, with a contemporary style kitchen (including a generous sized kitchen island), dining area and snug (with TV and wood burning stove) that seamlessly look out onto the in/out patio and garden beyond, through 4 large sliding doors.
The house was constructed to the highest building standards and the underfloor heating in the kitchen / diner and log burning stove in the snug help to make the house wonderfully cosy in the winter.
As well as the kitchen / diner and snug, there is also a study (with desk and chair), separate playroom (or fifth bedroom as there is a sofa bed in there), utility room (with washing machine and separate tumble dryer) and WC on the ground floor.
On the first floor is a master bedroom (with super king-size bed) with en-suite bathroom as well as three further bedrooms and a family bathroom. Both bathrooms are contemporary in style with wall to ceiling tiles creating the look and feel of a spa. All bedrooms have large built in wardrobes with plenty of storage.
The house has a private lawn garden at the back, a storage area for bicycles etc down the side passage as well as private off-road parking for three cars at the front.
Our house is located in the "St Cross" area of Winchester which is considered the most salubrious area in Winchester. Whiteshute Lane is a quiet road with some lovely houses and a pleasant community atmosphere. There is a pleasant 20 minute walk into the city centre from our house along flat quiet roads (via Kingsgate Road is the best route into town) or footpaths past the grounds of Winchester College school and through Winchester Cathedral to the main high street.
We originally moved to Winchester for the picturesque city itself, the beautiful surrounding countryside of the South Downs and New Forest National Parks (great for walking and mountain biking - in particular the Winchester to Eastbourne South Downs Way off-road 100 mile cycle route), proximity to the South Coast (and the world class kitesurfing of Hayling Island as well as the beautiful beaches of the world famous Sandbanks) as well as Winchester's proximity to London (approximately one hour by train).
Winchester was recently named the best city to live in thanks to its outdoor spaces, community spirit and quality of living.
The historic cathedral city was called "practically perfect" by the Sunday Times Best Places To Live Guide 2016. Winchester thoroughly deserves its status as the best place to live in Britain. It offers a tasty slice of authentic history, with great transport links and fine schools. It also has an irresistible mix of food, festivals and feel-good factor. Winchester has a fabulous mix of history, culture, shopping, countryside and accessibility that adds up to a highly-prized quality of life.
