We have called our house Flying Fish after a modern sculpture in the garden. My boyfriend Mally designed and built Flying Fish 5 years ago and it is said to be unrivalled in the area for its outstanding eco credentials. We are both very keen on sustainable architecture so the house has a ground source heat pump and a heat recovery system that recycles heat generated from the glass roof in the conservatory, the kitchen and the bathrooms.
Standing right at the heart of the historic town of Woodstock we are ten miles away from Oxford City Centre. From Oxford there are bus and train links into London which run 24 hours a day 7 days a week. We are also right on the doorstep to the Cotswolds, an area of outstanding natural beauty and traditional English chocolate box villages.
Woodstock itself is a beautiful and bustling local town with a thriving community. It was used as the backdrop for the film Cemetery Junction. There are many fantastic places to eat and drink including La Galleria which serves fantastic Italian food, to Jaan where you can get a cracking Indian to the Black Prince which does excellent traditional pub food. All of these places are within a few minutes walk of our house.
Flying Fish borders the Blenheim Palace Estate. From the top two floors there is a fabulous view of the grounds and the Queen Pool, designed by Capability Brown. Blenheim hosts many events throughout the year including the International Horse Trials, Art & Antique Fairs and this year on 9th July will be welcoming the Olympic Torch relay.
The layout of our house is over 3 floors. On the ground floor and sharing the main entrance is a self-contained flat, which is rented out to our lovely and very quiet tenants Jess and Alistair. To be completely honest we hardly ever see and very rarely hear each other coming and going so we don’t really impact on each other’s lives at all. Also on this level is a laundry/boot and coat room and across the hallway is a clothes drying room.
Going upstairs to the first floor and where your exclusive part of the house starts is the games conservatory then into the open plan living area which is 15 metres long and includes a fully fitted luxury kitchen, dining room and living room. Open the living room patio doors and walk out onto the very private deck at the back. We have a gas BBQ and outdoor table and chairs. It’s a very pleasant place to spend a Summers evening, especially in the hot tub with a glass of fizz.
Upstairs are four bedrooms. The master bedroom is very spacious and has ensuite including separate shower and bath. Next door is a double sized room which is the only room that has a single bed. There is a further double room followed by a family bathroom with separate shower and bath. Finally a double room with ensuite shower.
A couple of things that are quite important to us, we are not smokers and so would ask that you refrain from smoking whilst staying here. We have an elderly yet much loved and very social cat called Panda. Hopefully you will be animal lovers and be able to feed her for us while you are staying. She likes to chat occasionally and will be delighted with the odd bit of attention but other than that she is very happy just to sleep for most of the day and not be any trouble at all.
We also have an apartment in the French Alps in a village called Les Contamines on the Western slopes of Mont Blanc. So if you would like to make this a two centre holiday then this 3 bedroom apartment is also available.
