About our home

We live in the beautiful ancient walled city of York which used to be the capital of England in Roman times. It is steeped with history museums, architecture and many fantastic old quaint pubs/bars. There are an abundance of restaurants to cater for all different cultures and tastes. We are 10 minutes from the city centre by car and a 25 minute walk. We live in a small village with local shops and bakeries selling fresh produce. The local bus service goes into the city every 10 minutes. There are many lovely places to visit within 1 hours drive of York, the coast, lake district and Yorkshire dales are a few. London and Edinburgh can be reached by train in 2 hours. Our car would be a your disposal, we are hoping for an exchange this summer end of July/August for 2 to 4 weeks. Our children are teenagers and very well behaved.
We have a lovely victorian era house with eight bedrooms, two living rooms, a dining room and kitchen. There is also a snooker room that will keep most children entertained for hours. Our lovely garden is south facing with a terrace that is ideal for sunbathing in summer.

The house was built in 1894 by a local business man for his daughter and comprises 19 rooms over three floors.
The top floor is a self-contained letting with its own lounge, kitchen and bathroom. Although the four tenants have access via the front door and staircase they do not enter the main part of the house. For this small inconvenience we are willing to share the rent you will get £150.00 per week of your stay.
The first floor consists of five bedrooms and a family bathroom located on a mezzanine floor down a short flight of stairs. There is also an additional w.c. on this level.
The ground floor comprises a large entrance hall, two family lounges, snooker room, dining room with computer terminal and kitchen. There is also a further bathroom on this floor.
Access to the outside decking, utility room and secure parking are gained from this level.
A frequent, regular bus service operates from outside the house to the centre of York and there are a good selection of banks, local shops, takeaways and a supermarket within a few minutes’ walk.
The house contains many original features such as cornices and working fireplaces and has been lovingly restored by us.
