About our home

THE BEACH AT YOUR DOORSTEP: This is a modern two-story home with million-dollar views on a quiet beach/bay in the charming, historic sea town of Anacortes, Washington, take-off point for the beautiful San Juan Islands and Victoria, B.C. We have kayaks and boats to slide into a bay that looks out to volcanic Mount Baker, with bald eagles and ospeys and oyster catchers in our front yard. In summer, you can catch your own sweet Dungeness crabs right in front of the house. If tides are right, you'll be able to harvest the oysters we've planted in the "front yard."
We have a well-appointed kitchen with gas stovetop/two ovens, a large deck with gas grill, two fireplaces, an upstairs lounging deck, a master bath with double jacuzzi tub, three TVs, a large musical collection, and fast-speed Internet. Our walls are lined with books and hung with art. The master bedroom has a king-size bed and large TV. Our second bedroom doubles as a TV room, with a new comfy, pull-out queen sofa (soft memory foam mattress).
It's a comfortable spot for a couple, a family of three, or two couples.
You're so close to the water, you feel like you are floating. "Magical" is the word home exchangers use for this special place.

More about us

  1. I am an editor and freelance writer, and love to immerse myself in new places/cultures. I love playing blues/jazz on keys, and have a wonderful upright grand. My partner is an environmental consultant -- and also plays a pretty mean blues harp. We read like crazy, and hike this fabulous island every day. We're up for any and all adventures.

Where is it?

Anacortes is a salty little town that lies halfway between Seattle and Vancouver, B.C. It's low-key, but has fine art galleries, boutique shops, excellent restaurants, and some of the finest hiking trails in Washington State. You can book kayak adventures and whale-watching excursions in town (the orcas frolick in our waters May-Oct.)The 180-foot-high Deception Pass Bridge is a bike ride away, and you can see the local golf course from the front yard. In spring, nearby Skagit Valley hosts an International Tulip Festival that draws people from all over the world. The valley farmstands are open year-'round with fresh organic fruit, produce, handcrafted cheeses, and home-grown wine. Anacortes is situated on Fidalgo Island, connected to the mainland by bridge. We have the highest per-capita amount of land set aside for recreation of any city in the state. Our home is about a 10-minute drive from the heart of town.
