Our home is a rural paradise! It is over 2000 Sq. ft. and features an attached guest apartment, thus allowing us to do hospitality exchanges as well as non simultaneous exchanges. The home has great views "down valley" and lots of natural light and windows. The great room features a living room and a dining area. There is a large TV and stereo system and a good CD collection. The dining area can seat 8. The kitchen has several independent work stations and a Henn-air grill and range. The master suite features a temperpedic California king size bed, private bath with tile double shower, a walk in closet, a sitting area and out the glass doors, on the redwood deck, a Hot Springs Jacuzzi hot tub, just right for two. The stars at night from the hot tub are just incredible. The Milky Way seems close enough to touch. There is also a hall bath, mud room (for the dogs, mainly),and a library room, full of books. The library room connects to the guest apartment through a door. The guest apartment has twin beds, large closet, kitchen and bath. The living room area is primarily jewelry studio and the bead studio is on the porch. The bedroom area also houses the computer. t is a very complete unit.
My husband and I retired five years ago from public education. We are in our late 50's. We love to travel and are experinced home exchangers. In our retirement, we work in our small home jewelry business. Tim makes glass beads over a torch, one at a time, and Susan designs and creates beautiful glass bead jewelry from Tim's unique beads. It provides with a little money for travel. We really enjoy the creative process and watching our hobby grow.
The views from the house are of rolling oak woodland. Our home is located on 10+ acres and the end of a private road. There is no road noise and no streetlight--hence the stars! You can see the nearest neighbors house, but just barely. Neighbors are all friendly, but we all respect each other's privacy. We have two mature well behaved dogs who need food and water and pats, occasionally. If you do go away on trips, a neighbor can look after them. Frequent visitors to the property include, black tail deer, quail, wild turkeys, hawks, birds, frogs, opossums, raccoons, foxes and an occasional bobcat or skunk. It is a natural setting and the animals are here. The oaks provide shelter for a lot of native species.
The nearest town is Arroyo Grande and it is a half hour away on a pretty paved county road. Near Arroyo Grande, is Pismo Beach-a great expanse of Pacific sand and a popular beach. There are many other cute little beach towns all up and down the coast each with unique shops and animals such as otters, pelicans, seals, sea lions and gulls. Tidepooling, surfing, fishing, whale watching are all things to do on the water. A 45 minute drive brings you to San Luis Obispo, an old mission town with a major university, art galleries, library, coffee houses, unique shops, restaurants, farmer's market, bars and restaurants. Our area is also known for its wineries.
3 1/2 hrs. south is Los Angeles, 3 1/2 hrs. north is San Francisco. 5 hours to Yosemite National Park.
