About our home

Step out of the fast lane, and into a peaceful getaway: Doubling Point Cottage is a quiet and cozy place to get away from it all, yet is still in the heart of a community and the beauty of Midcoast Maine. One mile from a charming small town, 15 minutes from a spectacular Maine beach, and 35 minutes to Maine's cultural hub, Portland - this lovely retreat is fully stocked, comfortable, and relaxing. There are two beds, both very comfortable, and the whole house is cozy, comfortable, and relaxed - not at all fancy. We have tried to fill it with books, games, soft blankets, and all the things to help a family or a couple be able to relax. This is actually not our primary home - it is a small home that was falling apart when we first saw it three years ago. We bought it and fixed the whole thing up ourselves. Now we rent it out short term on AirBnB, sometimes for longer-term stays in the winter, and host friends and family as well. Because this is not our primary home, we are happy to host for points swap instead of reciprocal exchange.

More about us

  1. We are a family of three, two parents and an 8-year-old. Our child is quiet and curious, loves to read, and is a good traveler. He reports that his favorite part of traveling is "good food" and "interesting houses."

  2. We love to garden, cook and enjoy food with friends and neighbors, and enjoy the forest and beach near our home. Our favorite weekend activity is a trip to the farmer's market in our town to buy fresh food for breakfast.

  3. When traveling we take our time, and farmer’s markets, coffee shops, and strolling through neighborhoods with a lot of history and interesting architecture.

Where is it?

One mile from the village of Bath, Maine, and 12 miles from one of Maine's most magnificent beaches - Midcoast Maine truly has it all. The town is a lovely village with several restaurants, a coffee shop, independent bookstore, excellent farmer's market, and other local shops, all nestled along Front Street Bath and the mighty Kennebec River. Bath is historically a shipbuilding town, and is still the home of a large working shipyard which gives Bath it's distinctive waterfront. Nearby are several protected forest lands for hiking as well as two state-owned beaches which are beautiful year-round. Bath is 35 minutes from Maine's largest city, Portland, and only 10 minutes from the larger college town of Brunswick, Maine.
