About our home

In 1924, the architect, John Knox Ballantine designed and built this home for himself and his family in harmony with nature and in the style of a Cotswold cottage in the English countryside. This magical and romantic home has been renovated and has a small, detached cottage with a queen bed, full kitchen and bath with shower that overlooks a lovely private landscaped courtyard. With great indoor-outdoor flow, the home takes full advantage of the California sunshine throughout the day. Design details are abundant throughout including an arched doorway, original leaded glass windows with stained glass, an impressive fireplace and a slate roof. The front courtyard and deck offer wonderful outdoor spaces to enjoy your morning coffee or to watch the sunset with splendid views of the San Francisco Bay and Golden Gate Bridge. The lower level backyard offers a fire table and seating for adults and a sandbox/play area for kids. Located in Berkeley's coveted, historic La Loma district, there are delightful paths nearby so you can stroll down to the shops and award-winning restaurants in North Berkeley's "Gourmet Ghetto".
