Beautifully decorated 4 bedroom/3 bath home within a short walk to Capitola Village on the beautiful Monterey Bay. Our home has wide plank hardwood floors with under floor heating, a gas fireplace, down sofas and chairs, a large french farm table that comfortably seats 8 but can squeeze in 10. The guest room downstairs has built in bunk beds (like a boat) for two and also a full size bed that fits two. Upstairs, the master bedroom has a queen size bed and the two other bedrooms each have a single bed. Although the back garden is small, we have a deck where you can dine, an outdoor table that seats 4 and a firepit for when you're in a mood for a real fire! It's beautifully landscaped front and back in a cottage style. Our house is nearly 3000 square feet and is perfect for entertaining as we have an "open plan" throughout the entire downstairs. My home is furnished mostly with antiques and painted furniture, but isn't stuffy at all. It's a home meant to be enjoyed by family so it has a very casual, California living feel about it. It's very, very light and airy with double hung windows to let in that nice ocean breeze.
We're in a small neighborhood on Depot Hill that overlooks the bay. It's so nice because we're close to the village, but at the same time removed from it as we sit above it on the hill. A flight of stairs built on the side of the hill drops you right into the village where you'll find the beach, wonderful restaurants and shopping. Capitola is a great spot for beginning surfers and family play at the beach as we're in a rather protected spot on the bay. The public transportation here is very convenient and stops just at the bottom of our hill. We have lots of families with kids and dogs in our neighborhood, yet it's very quiet. People are terrificly nice and will stop to chat whether they know you or not. Although everyone has dogs here, a leash law is in effect and they are not allowed on the beach. This keeps the beaches clean and everyone feeling safe.
We're about an hour to San Francisco (to the north) and about an hour to Carmel (to the south) both along coastal highway 1. Just "over the hill" (about 1/2 hours away) as we say here, is the Bay Area where you'll find some of the best shopping malls in California. Palo Alto offers great restaurants and shopping at Stanford Mall (yes, right next to the university).
