About our home

Ours is a happy, 2-story cottage known locally as the "upside down house" of Claremont because most of the living area is upstairs. Upstairs are the loft-like living room with wood-burning fireplace, dining area, two bedrooms and 1.5 baths. Mature trees, tall oleanders and bamboo frame the property. Because every view from every window is green, people say we live in a tree house. It is quiet and private. Downstairs are the entry, a family or TV room, small office and laundry facilities. Summer life is mostly on the upstairs shaded deck.
We are in the Village, a ten-minute walk to the college campuses, both sides of the shopping village, the train depot which takes us via Metrolink and Amtrak to downtown L.A. and other destinations like the OC, San Diego, or Northern California. The bus line to Las Vegas is also nearby. You'll love Claremont Village with its quaint shops, good restaurants, Craftsman and Victorian homes, year-round California life al fresco and nearby hiking trails and snow-covered Mt. Baldy in winter. Free concerts in the park, 3 blocks away, all summer.
Claremont is 20 car minutes to Old Town Pasadena for more of a "city" feeling. Old Town Pas has great shops and restaurants, the Rose Bowl and the Norton Simon Museum. We are 35 car minutes from Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm. Closer to us is a large waterpark, Raging Waters.

More about us

  1. We are clean, healthy, respectful, non-smoking, non-drinking Fifty-Somethings interested in art, antiques, music, theatre and travel. We enjoy entertaining at home and participating in the greater Claremont community. I am a writer, artist and life coach and Alan is an AP English teacher at Westchester High School. Alan loves sports and the great outdoors. We will treat your home with respect and care and know you will do the same with our home. My van can be available for local jaunts in the Claremont area but you will want to rent a car for further travels, as my van is getting on in years!

Where is it?

Picture a Norman Rockwell painting updated to include the diversity of a small American college town. Claremont is the secret jewel in the crown of Southern California. The terrain is mostly flat so it is easy walking and biking everywhere locally. We have bicycles and helmets to borrow.
The shops in the "Old Village" include a Folk Music Store, Starbucks, almost 30 eateries, men's and ladie's clothing shops, home decor boutiques, jewelers, a Birkenstock store (what college town would be complete without that?), style salons, etc. A movie theatre, boutique hotel, restaurants, jazz cafe, shops and open air plaza are in Village West. The Historic Packing House also houses galleries, a vintage clothing boutique, used book store, a Wine Shop, the International Glass and Bead Shop and a middle-eastern restaurant, Casablanca. It's a 10-minute walk to all these places.
We are 20 minutes from Ontario Airport, voted the most convenient "alternative airport" to LAX for its easy "in and out" access and low-key, casual atmosphere. Even though we are in sunny California, it seems a little like the Midwest or New England here. There are many diseduous trees, adding to the four-season feel. It is known as the town of "trees and PhD.s". Many activities are available on a complimentary basis during the school year through the Claremont Colleges. Calendars of local events are available in print and online.
