About our home

We have a 2-story home on a hill above Puget Sound with a view that will blow you away. Enter through the front door, onto the main level, and when you walk through to the kitchen, you'll get an amazing panorama of the water, Vashon Island, and the Olympic Mountains in the background. There is nothing more striking than seeing the sun over the blue waves, and watching the container ships, ferries, and sailboats navigate the Sound.

Our main level includes a living room, formal dining room, kitchen with adjacent eating area, family room with gas fireplace and flat-screen TV, and bathroom. Out the back door, you'll see our inviting deck that runs the full length of the house, with a smaller raised deck that's just the right size for patio furniture. Perfect for grilling or just relaxing and watching the sunset over the water.

Downstairs you'll find our family room, including a desk/office space, 3 bedrooms, a laundry room, storage area, and two full bathrooms with tub and shower. The family room also features a second fireplace and TV. The master bedroom has a king bed, attached full bath, and a walk-in closet. Newly carpeted, painted, and redecorated, this living space will be a welcoming, quiet getaway. You can even walk out the back door to a beautiful lawn and garden area, thriving with rhododendrons and lilacs, along with a huge magnolia tree (complete with a tree house). On the other side of the house you'll find apple, pear, and plum trees. The climate here allows trees and shrubs to remain green year-round ... this is the Evergreen State, after all!

Our modern kitchen provides all the appliances you'll need, including a dishwasher and microwave, along with a sizable pantry. You'll also appreciate the lighted bar area in the dining room, which features an enclosed wine rack.

Redondo Beach is accessible on foot, about 5 minutes' walk. It's our favorite beach for
hunting for sea glass and enjoying the 1/2-mile long boardwalk that overlooks the Sound. You'll see many neighbors jogging or strolling here, enjoying the view and soaking up some sun.

We're just 10 minutes' drive to the I-5, which will take you either south toward Tacoma (20 minutes) and Olympia (1 hour), or north toward Seattle (30 minutes). Supermarkets, drugstores, shopping malls, and a large variety of restaurants are all within 10 minutes.

The nearby water park offers a fun summer activity, and you can be in the Cascade Mountains in less than an hour for hiking, biking, or even a lazy picnic. If you enjoy kayaking, you'll find many places to rent your kayak; our favorite is in Gig Harbor, about 45 minutes away. You can't miss Mount Rainier, a striking snow-capped mountain that would make a wonderful day trip.

We are a 60-something couple, newly retired and looking for those adventures we always dreamed of but never had time for. We are non-smokers and have no pets. Our careers have taken us all over the U.S. and we've both traveled internationally as well. But this is our chance to enjoy an extended trip. We hope to find an exchange for 2-3 weeks in 2012.
