About our home

1830's brick house with 1890's Victorian wing; large, fully equipped kitchen and an additional kitchenette. (See www.Fincastlebedandbreakfast.com for exterior photos and of the downstairs bedroom and kitchenette). Bathroom with washer and drying on ground floor; 4 upstairs bedrooms, one single, and two bathrooms - less than elegant but functional. House is furnished with reproductions and studio furniture made by Jacob Cress (see www.jakecress.com). Furniture making shop in log cabin right out the back door. House sits on 1 acre lot with a pond with waterfall close to the back porch.

House is one and a half blocks from the Jeffersonian courthouse, drug store, and bank. Fincastle is a village of 300-plus souls, the county seat of Botetourt County. The house is surrounded by older homes but is only a block from Rt. 220, which takes you to the City of Roanoke (south) or national forests (west and north). The town is friendly and open; our saying is "you can do what you like so long as you don't scare the horses and everybody knows about it".

We are an older couple (sixties) with four children and nine grandchildren (at this writing); we would plan on making this trade by ourselves. I am a retired English teacher and substance abuse program developer and administrator; my husband is a cabinetmaker (in the original sense of the word). He is also something of an expert on the American Civil War. We have a sense of humor and don't much care for stuffiness.
