Ground floor and attic level family home with 3 bathrooms and 4 bedrooms, extensively remodelled and delightfully furnished.
Upstairs in attic remodel are 2 bedrooms, one new bathroom and a family-living room with TV, computer etc.
Main floor is classic Victorian: oak floors, high ceilings, lots of large windows and light. 2 remodeled bathrooms, office, bedroom, living room, music room and large kitchen. Deck on side of house with steps to brick patio with marble fountain and garden. From kitchen, entrance onto high deck with fabulous views over downtown Grass Valley.
Stairs in the back lead down to small extra bedroom, and back entrance with path leading to car parking area and back alley.
There is a basement level which is completely separate and my rental. They are very nice people and don't interfere with our life at all but do need to be considered with regard to noise. They have their own deck and garden on the other side of the house.
The neighbourhood is residential, but very close to town. There is a park with a public swimming pool, tennis courts and baseball diamond on my street. Around the corner another small park with a FABULOUS, ENORMOUS play structure - for young children.
This is a wonderful area to walk in, with lots of small windy streets and interesting houses. Up the hill is an entrance into an enormous State Park - Empire Mine State Park - where you can walk for hours.
Down the road is the beginning of the charming historic downtown area where there are lots of coffee bars and restaurants and shops, in particular a number of excellent book stores. THis is all only 5-10 mins walk from the house. During the summer there are street markets on Fridays which are fun and you can walk and avoid the parking difficulties!
A few miles away is Nevada City, also an historic town from the goldrush times, even more quaint and therefore more touristy, with many excellent restaurants and bars.
Nearby (20/30 mins drive) are various access points to the Yuba River, with awesome places to swim and hike. A big attraction of this area.
We are 2 hours drive from Berkeley, 2 1/2 hrs from San Francisco, and only 1 1/4 hours from gorgeous Lake Tahoe. 1 hr NE of Sacramento (nearest airport).
Really an awesome spot for a vacation - and a wonderful place to live!
I am a technical writer, working mostly from home, so have double-speed DSL with wireless connectivity in the house.
I would be vacationing with my 2 daughters (14 and 16), and hopefully my college son (21), and partner Paul.
I am originally from London and really love this area of California. It is full of creative, intelligent people with lots of healing, artistic, sporty and spiritual-type activities available.
I lived in Germany for 6 years so speak German, also learned French at school for years.
