“This spotlessly clean and adorable apartment was the perfect place for my daughter and I to stay while visiting Charleston. Checking in and out was a breeze. There were treats left for us and also coffee! I found that particularly nice. Kirk and Nellie were the perfect hosts. I would definitely recommend a stay here.”

“This was the perfect stay. We’ve stayed in 6 star hotels and haven’t been provided wine and truffles so these little touches were not expected but very much appreciated. The apartment was very clean and quiet and fully stocked so if you want to travel with carry on you can do so with ease. I have to say I booked this apartment bases on Kirks response to an unhappy guest. I knew it was honest and thoughtfully written and I assure that anyone who stays on this property will be provided a very clean and comfortable stay. Thank you Nellie and Kirk. “Kirk & Nellie have created a special little niche & it was great for our short stay in Charleston. So many thoughtful pluses such as the basket of cooking supplies, plenty of towels & a special surprise… a chilled bottle of champagne eith two glasses… discovered when opening the frig. for the first time! The sleeping was quiet & comfortable & we felt very tucked in! Location wise, although you seem outside of Charleston, you are a quick drive to Folly Beach & downtown! “We left early because the place was infested with cockroaches. The host was gracious about it and refunded but then also told us that in "the low country" cockroaches are impossible to eliminate. Therefore, if you stay here, you will stay with cockroaches. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Host's response: Thank you for your review Heidi! We took some time to reflect on the proper way to reply to this very potentially damaging/untrue review. When we reached out and you mentioned this concern after 5 days of staying at the home we were of course taken back. We were happy to give you your points for the time not spent and the last night back due to your concern. We live in the home upstairs are very clean people and have never had this issue. The apartment downstairs has guests regularly stay with us and we have 200+ 5 star reviews which can be seen on Airbnb with an average rating of 4.97 out of 5. ( 2 people have gotten engaged in Mellow) We were concerned we might have somehow missed this even though we personally clean the home and put a lot of love into the spot as well as treat regularly for pest due to our climate naturally. Our actual response when you mentioned this was if there is a lot of rain which it rained over an inch on your last night ( you had no issues on the first 4 days we assume) palmetto bugs can on occasion get in no matter what the case. They are in the roach family but are a part of life in Charleston, LOL. Since you are moving here I’m sure you will quickly understand that. We were not sure you being from California knew what these are, the difference and was very tactfully trying to explain. We by no means did we say oh well can’t get rid of them. Hopefully Mellow not having a laundry (which seemed a concern) which we don’t claim too and you finding a place to live earlier than you anticipated did not result in this review being of malicious intent to redeem some of your points. We “just in case” removed everything from the apartment and treated and even cancelled one of our guest stays to make sure and no pest were found. We understand it is not possible to make every guest happy even though that is our intent and by no means do we have a “cockroach infested" home or anything close. Very funny none of your kind words such as “we love mellow it is such an adorable cottage" ended up on your review. No matter the case we wish you all the best and hope you and your son enjoy Charleston. Take care.”
