About our home

We are seeking to exchange our lovingly furnished second home-- a 3 bedroom, 2 ½ bath town house. Since I am an artist (and teach art at the University of Maryland) the house is decorated with my aesthetic eye!
It is a roomy comfortable, three story townhouse, with everything you would need-- from cable TV to a coffee maker to beach umbrellas and bicycles;from a ice cream maker to fishing rods and tennis rackets...since it is a 5 minute drive from the ocean or bay beach to our house, it is easy to have a morning coffee and walk on the beach, watching the seagulls and dolphins, and come home to plan the rest of the day. Our habit has been to walk to town (about 20 minutes) and have our delicious coffee and pastry at our favorite coffee shop, leisurely read the newspaper, poke around the unique shops(art galleries, antiques, books, gourmet food, boutiques) and walk home to change into our bathing suits for a great swim in the warm, clean ocean.

More about us

  1. We fell in love with this town - and each other!- over 25 years ago. Our townhouse is our second home and perhaps someday, our retirement home. We are both involved in higher education- as a policy analyst- working with boards of regents and trustees- and as a university faculty member- teaching art, graphic design and business. We have one grown son. We absolutely adore the area- we think the beach is the most beautiful (and swimable) on the east coast- sometimes you can even see dolphins! Many fabulous restaurants - with the best seafood you ever could have!- stylish boutiques, interesting antique shops.. and the most marvelous farmers' market every Saturday you could ask for. (plus so much more!) We live outside of Washington, DC and often go to our house on weekends, less than a 2 1/2 hour drive.

Neighbourhood

Our townhouse is located in Lewes, DE a wonderful historic American small town ( pop. less than 4,000 residents in the off season). Established in 1631 by the Dutch, it is the first town in the first state in the US. Ideally located at the tip of Delaware, with the Delaware Bay on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other, bisected by the Intercoastal Canal, there are lots of opportunities for swimming, fishing, sailing, or just relaxing in the sun. Its charm comes from the wide undeveloped shoreline along the bay and state park ocean, and its historic district of homes, dating from the colonial and Victorian periods, its eclectic shops and several wonderful restaurants. If you crave a big city, it is a pleasant drive to Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington, DC. In addition, there is ferry from Lewes to Cape May, NJ- another wonderful historic Victorian town for a lovely day trip or continue on up the coast to New York City.

Lewes is a walking town. Within a 1 mile from our own home, you will find the Historic District complete with a museums, colonial churches and homes and our favorite coffee shops and bistros. We are 1.8 miles from the huge gorgeous state park beach and nature trails. There is an excellent public library at your disposal as well as a variety of antique shops and boutiques;tennis courts, playgrounds. Of course, there are the essential supermarkets, pharmacies ( even a hospital) Perfect for a combination of work and vacation...something for the entire family--including a flat screen cable TV. You will absolutely fall in love with this town and our townhouse! If you need it, you can also have use of our car.

You can fly into Dulles, Reagan or BWI-Marshall Airports. We can meet give you the keys to the house and car, and you can drive straight to the house if you want. It's about a 2 1/2 hour drive from Dulles, and about 2 hour drive from DC or Baltimore.
