“Wow! What an amazing place this is. Shelly greeted us and was very welcoming. The barn is so comfortable with lots of added touches including a welcoming basket of Vermont goods. Gayle, who lives in the basement of the barn and care-takes amongst other things was also very helpful and kind. The farm, over 54 acres has a tennis court, goats, hot tub a pond you can swim and and beautiful walks. The area around Manchester has plenty of good restaurants and of course some outlet shops within the small town. It is also a wonderful base to tour the Vermont area. Thank you Shelly so much for a wonderful holiday and we wish you the best of luck with your new exchange property in New York.”

Once the country estate and studio of famed painter and fly fishing enthusiast Ogden Pleissner, Boorn Brook Farm has been restored to its original splendor. Situated on 54 acres of open meadows and old apple orchards with stunning views, Boorn Brook Farm is protected by Lye Brook National Forest, yet within the town limits of Manchester Center.
The French inspired barn, built in 1820 has wide-plank floors, hand-hewn beams, soaring ceilings, stone fireplaces and New England charm. Perfect for a romantic getaway, a country vacation for a small family or a quiet retreat to nature, Boorn Brook Farm is the quintessential Vermont experience!
In the summer, swim in the spring-fed pond with a beach, play tennis on the private court, hike on the private trails or in the bordering Lye Brook Wilderness, fish in the brook, pick fresh veggies from the organic garden or simply relax in one of the hammocks. In the winter, skate on the pond, sled on the hill, snowshoe or cross country ski on the back trails, downhill ski or snowboard at nearby Stratton or Bromley Mountains. Return home to build a roaring fire in the stone fireplace, bake some bread in the stone bread oven, play a game of pool, sip some hot chocolate and then watch the sun set behind Equinox Mountain from the hot tub, right outside your master bedroom!
Children and adults alike will also enjoy our farm pets, Lola the Brown Swiss Cow, Willie and Skippy the miniature goats, and Ender the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog. This is not our primary home, so we do not need to exchange at the same time. All times of the year are available with the exception of Christmas, when we usually use the barn for family and friends.
We also have a lovely townhouse in New York City which may be available for a weekend trip to the city.

“The pictures do not do this incredibly beautiful restored 1820s barn justice. Shelly was extremely helpful with any questions. The care taker on the property, Gayle, was also extremely helpful. The property is gorgeous. The queen bed mattress was so comfortable and the fireplace in the great room wonderful. Highly recommend. My daughter fell in love with the Nigerian Dwarf goats! I now may have to buy a farm!........Thanks so much Shelly!”
“Shelly's 'barn' is quite the most beautiful place to spend a few days. And Shelly gave us a warm welcome and the most beautiful basket of goodies upon arrival. ”
“This has been one of our favourite homes and best experiences since we have joined Love Home Swap. The property was several acres of beautifully kept up luscious green grass with a fantastic view of Mount Equinox. There was a tennis court, which we used frequently, a pond. trails and a brook and a hot tub which we never had time to use. Wonderful pets and generous friendly hosts and a caretaker , Gayle, who after one day felt like an old friend. The restored barn is a treasure to behold. Very spacious with wide pine floors and fantastic furnishings. We loved the village of Manchester which was only 5 minutes away by car. Rarely have we had such an enjoyable stay.”
“Both Shelly and The Barn could not have been more welcoming. It has a genuine rustic charm, with a huge living area that can also get quite cozy at night with the fire place blazing. Have a game of tennis or croquet, go for a bike ride, fish in the pond or explore the surrounding Vermont countryside which is simply stunning. Manchester is a good looking town with all the shops, restaurants and amenities you need. It's a lovely place and we'd recommend it especially for families with children. ”
