ABOUT “CASA LOS CUATRO CUATROS”:
A vintage Mediterranean Revival exterior embodies the heyday of the 1920’s Miami Beach boomtown. Inside, it’s a totally new, just completed total architect remodel and restoration. Interior design is consistent with hacienda or estancia style, mixing European and Latin American traditions. It is accented with modern art and items that we have brought back from our travels.
The home is approx. 3,600 SF (335 m2) of air-conditioned space (3 zones and 3 mini-splits) and has 3 bedrooms that function as such, 6 full baths, plus a separate office, playroom, great room with living and dining, library, breakfast room, plus outdoor pergola dining. It sleeps 11 in its current configuration.
You will enter our home via an entry vestibule that just hints at what lies just beyond another set of doors. You can keep all of your beach accessories in the adjacent mudroom. Once you open the second door, you’ll be surprised by a double-height great room that included both the living room and formal dining. Illuminated by a spectacular wrought iron chandelier, you’ll find an antique dining table ready to host up to 12 guests for dinner. After your meal, you can either retire to the adjacent library or open the double doors to the lounge chairs in the outdoor pool patio. Either way, you may not be inclined to go far (though the vibrant world of Miami Beach is just minutes outside the door). There is also an upstairs outdoor patio about to be finished, just off the master bedroom.
For more informal daily meals, we tend to use the breakfast room, which is nestled between the kitchen and the outdoor patio. It seats 6. Our house is comfortable both for discerning adults and fun-loving kids.
The kitchen has abundant light and everything you need for cooking at home. Viking 6 burner gas range, two bottom freezer refrigerators, microwave, and dishwasher. The generous granite kitchen island also serves as a counter that seats 3. The kitchen opens both to breakfast and to butler’s pantry that connects to the great room. You can close all the doors if you prefer privacy in your kitchen. If you don’t want to cook, your choice of restaurants are minutes away. If you want to stay home, there is a stack of delivery & take-out menus available.
Downstairs there is a smaller bedroom in the back for total privacy. It can be accessed through the main house, just off the breakfast, or they both open via double French doors to the pool area, for those in your group that may want more independence. It has a leather queen-sized sofa bed with memory foam mattress, plus a twin bed with trundle. All bedrooms in the house have room darkening shades.
The other cheery playroom/office. They may be used together as a suite, sharing a bath (with tub) or one may use another bath next to it that has a shower. Currently, we use these as a guestroom and playroom, respectively.
Library also has a queen-sized sofa bed and can be closed off with curtains.
The pool area has plenty of shade for the hot summer months, lots of lounge chairs and toys for kids. There is also a covered, rainproof pergola with fans for alfresco dining year-round.
Upstairs you’ll find the master suite, including two ‘his and hers’ baths and a private rooftop patio with pergola and seating. His bath has a generous walk-in shower and Hers has a tub. King size bed, luxury linens, Casper mattress. It’s airy and bright, with dark espresso colored furniture. Opens to a 2nd pergola and large roof deck.
Our daughter has a second, light-filled large bedroom with its own ensuite bath. It has 2 matching queen-sized beds, both with Tempur-Pedic mattresses. Full bath with tub. Colors are soft pink and gray (photo not current). It’s not super childish, so can be used just as easily by adults. We'll change linens to all white.
Technology: House has WiFi internet throughout. TVs: Library TV has Roku and Amazon Fire (we don't use cable.) There are additional TVs in the master bedroom and the back guest room. We have DVDs for adults and children in several languages, as well as a nice book collection. Amazon Alexa and Sonos music players throughout the house.
Office: currently set up as an office with 3 desks. It has a full bath with shower (though shower may be storage for now!) Should you need to work during your stay, there is a copier, printer and plenty of desk space. Ergonomic chairs make any work more comfortable. Office if accessible totally independently, from the entry vestibule. Depending on the exchange, we may leave this closed off.
There is a full-size washer and dryer in the laundry room. We can make arrangements with our housekeeper depending on your needs and what you can provide on the other side.
Xavier is allergic, so please, absolutely no smoking inside the house or pets. You can smoke outside anywhere with the door closed.
We are also open to doing a car exchange, depending on circumstances and location. Currently, we have a Land Rover LR3 available. If you have a Vespa or other scooter for us, we also have one for you! We have abundant off-street parking in our circular drive if you chose to bring your own car or rent.
There is totally separate studio apartment in the back of the house which is not included in the exchange. A friend of ours lives there. There is an independent entrance and you will not see them.
Finally, if you need more (or less) space, my parents have a 2 bedroom condo in a hi-rise in the heart of South Beach. Their apartment is also listed for home exchange if that should suit your needs. Please ask.
Please see below for our preferred exchange dates and locations. (I update this frequently.) But, we are open to many things, so please ask!
May be available for rent if an exchange doesn't work. Please ask, we offer discounts for swappers.
