We live in a charming, 1500 sq. ft. 2-story, 100+ yr old house in the historical district. On the main floor, we have a full kitchen, dining room (seats up to 8), living room (with queen sleeper-sofa), a bedroom (Double bed) and full bathroom with shower. There is also a front porch with seating and a barbque in the the back yard. There is a detached, two-car garage, with the possibility of a car-swap as well. The laundry is located in the basement. The upstairs has one large bedroom (joined two smaller rooms) with king bed, wall fountain, and seating/TV area. A second bathroom with tub/shower is also located on the second story, as well as a treadmill. Our house is equipped with cental air, though the second story doesn't get as cool as the first story. We have plenty of windows that are great for light and breeze. Even though the house was originally built in the late 1800's, the interior has been completly remodeled, along with lighting and electical. The rooms have been opened up so that they flow into eachother. It is a cozy house with an open feel. We have just repainted again (so many choices!) and we are currently enjoying modern cool colors of light blues and greens.
We take pride in our lawn and garden and we have patio furniture for enjoying warm, summer nights.
Our quiet, safe, neighborhood is a short walk away from downtown Monroe. We can walk to the supermarket, healthfood store, restaurants, bars, library, shopping, Custer museum, yoga studio, banks, schools, churches, parks and much more all within 15 minutes or less. We are 5 minutes from a major freeway (I-75) and many marinas located on Lake Erie. Though we live in a quiet neighborhood, it is just a 35 minute drive to Detroit, Ann Arbor and Toledo (OH). Toledo offers a zoo, art museum, great shopping and eating and entertainment. We are within 30 minutes of Detroit Metro Airport. We are within 20 minutes of an indoor water-park and about 2.5 hrs from the famous Cedar Point Amusement park. The street we live on was one of the first developed streets in the city and there are many historical homes along the street. There is a public bus system and a local taxi service.
Summertime in Michigan is perfenct with temps in the high 70's by day and 60's by night. We enjoy the close proximity to the lake for fishing, boating, picnicing and water sports. There are many charter boat options that we can help you arrange.
We are a 4 hour drive from Chicago, Cincinnati and Toronto and we enjoy driving or taking weekend trips via train to these other exciting cities.
I stayed in Toronto for the past two summers and I wish I had known about house swapping sooner! My friend had a great swap which prompted me to add our house to the exchange. We are a young couple without children (yet!), but we do love kids and we think that Monroe is a great family town. Michigan is great becuase of being able to experience all 4 seasons, it is hard to pick our favorite! Summer has the most to offer because of the agreeable weather, but each season is truly beautiful in its own right.
Although Monroe isn't a big city, we love its close proximity to all the big city action, without traffic and congestion. We will gladly help plan any events or outings to make your trip special! Email with any questions!
