About our home

We are looking to swap, either coincident or non-coincident to visit London for a month, possibly more. If coincident, sometime in May-June 2018. If non-coincident, our travel could occur anytime in May - Sept of 2018. Your travel to our home can take place anytime that our home is shown as being available. Our home was built in 2005. For a cabin it is relatively large at 2000 square feet (186 square meters) It has three bedrooms on the lower floor and a great room with fully-equipped kitchen on the upper level plus a bonus room with a full sized Futon that sleeps 2. It has two full baths (sink, loo, bathtub/shower) on the first floor and a half bath (loo and sink) on upper floor. It has a beautiful view of the first hole on the golf course next door with 1680 ft (156 m.) Neahkanie mountain behind it. It is located in a quiet, small town of about 1000 with 2 grocery stores, restaurants and shops to visit. We have two adult bicycles that we can make available for your stay as well as beach toys and kites -- just ask. Neahalem Bay State Park is about 0.1 km south of our home and occupies a 4 mile long spit between the ocean and Nehalem Bay. It has lots of biking/hiking trails. Much of Manzanita is flat enough to navigate comfortably by bike also.

Nearby activities include: beach walks/wading; crabbing and fishing on the nearby bay; climbing the mountain for stunning views of the 7 mile long beach, nearby bay and river; golfing on the course or at four other courses within a 40 minute drive; visiting lots of quaint villages along the coast; sightseeing up and down the coast; driving 1.5 hour to reach wine country with 50 or more wineries; playing games or watching TV on rainy days with perhaps a fire in the fireplace. The Oregon coast is world renowned for it's beauty. Residents are not allowed to own any Oregon beach, so all 200 miles of beach are public!

If the attractions of larger city and towns are of interest, Portland Oregon is a 2 hour drive away. With a metro population of 2.4 million, it offers all you might want in a clean, attractive, affordable city. Canon Beach, just 13 miles to the north has lots of boutique shops and more restaurants along with another beautiful beach. Seaside, just 12 miles further is one of the larger towns on the coast, with many more shops and restaurants and a full-service hospital, plus (ho-hum) another beautiful beach. Astoria, about 15 miles further up the coast is another relatively large town. It was the first permanent settlement in the Northwest, initially founded by Lewis and Clark and later by emissaries of John Jacob Astor, after whom it is named. Perched on a hill overlooking the mouth of the mighty Columbia River, it offers interesting architecture, great views, museums, lots of restaurants and an interesting waterfront. To the south of our home is the town of Tillamook, home of the Tillamook Cheese Factory, which is a highly popular brand of cheddar cheese throughout the Pacific Northwest. Factory tours are free. There is also an interesting aircraft museum, housed in a huge former Navy dirigible shelter.

On the way to Tillamook there are several small towns from which you can go ocean or bay fishing with a number of small firms that provide all equipment needed and (for ocean fishing) experienced captains to take you where the fish bite! The possibilities are endless; this is oceanside life at it's best!
