Where is it?
With London's centre of gravity moving east, huge investment around Thamesmead is underway to improve transport links via the DLR extension, the proposed Thames Gateway Bridge and the new Thames Clipper river services that operate from Woolwich Pier. Scheduled river services from Woolwich Pier, just two miles from The Gateway development, operate at morning and evening commuter times and take just 25 minutes to Canary Wharf and 37 minutes to London Bridge. Commuting to work by water is a real possibility. The Gateway is the place that's going to be the place to be.
London, of course, needs little introduction. If you want 'it', London's got 'it'. Commerce and character and celebrity. London is a city that deserves a capital 'C'. And getting there is easy. A clutch of local rail stations will take you to Charing Cross, Waterloo or London Bridge in under half an hour. The Docklands Light Railway is now running south of the river, with plans for further extensions that will bring stations even closer to Thamesmead.
But between the city and Thamesmead there are delightful other options that shouldn't be ignored. The Greenwich Theatre is a much-loved venue that can easily rival London's West End for the quality of its productions. Shopping in Bexleyheath and Woolwich is as varied as anyone could wish for.
