About our home

Beautiful, comfortable, quiet one-bedroom New York City apartment in the heart of one of the most desirable neighborhoods in the entire United States: Manhattan's Upper West Side. The apartment is on the 10th floor of a 16-storey building that dates from the 1920s. The building has round-the-clock elevator operators, a rarity in the city. The apartment is comfortable rather than luxurious; the kitchen has a gas stove, microwave oven, refrigerator with freezer compartment and sink, but no dishwasher; both the livingroom and bedroom have a bright northern exposure and an incomparable cityscape view over smaller brownstone buildings. There is a double bed in the bedroom and a very comfortable pull-out queen-size bed in the living room; the livingroom has an upright piano in need of tuning and a dining area with a table that can open to seat ten. An air conditioner in the bedroom and another near the kitchen will cool the entire apartment on a hot summer day. There are numerous laundries in the neighborhood as well as a pay washing machine in the basement.

More about us

  1. We are two retired couples, old friends, one couple gay, the other straight, Bob and Lee and Grita and Allen. We want to travel together in France and Italy between April 3rd and April 13th, spending four days on the Côte d'Azur, preferably in or near Antibes, and most of the next week in Venice. We (Bob and Lee) divide our time between our apartment in New York City and a farmhouse home in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, so do not need a simultaneous exchange. Grita and Allen divide their time between their home in Berkeley, California and a condo in Denver, Colorado, where their son lives, and they, too, are willing to offer their Denver residence for an exchange.

Where is it?

The location is ideal. The apartment is one block from the Museum of Natural History and the Planetarium, two blocks from Central Park, a five minute walk from the New York Historical Society and a fifteen minute walk from Lincoln Center. The Metropolitan Museum of Art is directly across the park, a pleasant twenty-minute walk. Food shopping is as good as it gets in New York, with three of the finest food shops in the city within a five block radius: Zabars, Citarella and Fairway. We are within close walking distance of five subway lines and many bus lines; our street is on a crosstown bus line. It would be hard to find a better Manhattan location or more comfortable living quarters.
