About our home

Our home is gorgeous, sunny, and welcoming, and opens up onto a dreamy, and quintessentially Northern California garden. Honestly, you may never want to leave!

The large two story house is full of an eclectic mix of European and American antiques, art, photographs, and charm. One of the two living rooms has a working fireplace and sliding glass doors into an idyllic garden with a giant palm tree, redwood grove, mature fig tree, and many spots for lounging on the grass in the sunshine or shade. There is also a large deck for outdoor dining, and a barbecue, of course. They call all of this 'indoor outdoor living' but I just called it very good fortune!

The second living room has a comfortable lounge area, ideal for lazy videogame-playing teenagers and kids. Our dining room seats eight and has French doors also opening to the garden. We have vegetable and flower gardens in the front of the house, and newly planted citrus trees.

The house is full of books and large windows, while the master bedroom is airy and romantic with its own balcony and dreamy bathroom, complete with heated floors, decadent bathtub, and over-the-top chandelier.

My daughter, Lila, is 14, and my son Sacha, is 23. I am a photographer/filmmaker. My partner, Vicente, who does not live with us, is also a filmmaker. We happen to have the greatest dog in the world, a Mexican rescue dog named el Chapo (found during a house exchange in Cabo). Because he requires more attention than most humans, he will be out of the house during exchanges. We also have Lola, the sweetest cat in the world, and she does come with the exchange. And lastly, we have a beehive but they mind their own business (in the front of the house, not in the back garden).

WE PREFER NON-SIMULTANEOUS EXCHANGES (due to the dog).

Neighbourhood

Our house is north of the Golden Gate Bridge and provides the best of both worlds - the beauty of San Francisco and the quite of Marin. We are commuter distance from San Francisco and an easy drive from Napa Valley.

Novato is, at first glance, a pretty typical American suburb with side by side houses, and a quant little main street. But it is situated in one of the most beautiful areas of California, surrounded by bay on one side, and lush hills on the other.

There are endless hiking and mountain biking trails in the area. It takes half an hour to get to downtown San Francisco by ferry boat from nearby Larkspur (15 minutes away) or about an hour by car ( depending on traffic). My son commuted to school in San Francisco daily. Napa and Sonoma are also both a short drive away. We are halfway between Napa and San Francisco, so you can just as easily go wine tasting and picnicking, as you can explore the city museums.

The surrounding area is incredibly beautiful, with lush hills, sequoia trees and breathtaking Northern California scenery. We are half an hour from the beautiful coastline and beaches.

Be careful, once you come and visit, you won't want to leave.

While the city of San Francisco is covered in fog between June and September, the sun still shines brightly in Novato.
