About our home

Our house was constructed out of very old heart redwood from a barn and has been beautifully updated. Our home has hardwood floors, a deep clawfoot bathtub, 2 stories, a daybed in the living room area, and a deck with planters and chairs made out of old French oak wine barrels. It has a beautiful kitchen with 4 burner stove and oven, toaster oven, washer and dryer, shower and bathtub, is set in the trees near a creek, an open plan bedroom upstairs, a second small room adjacent to the bedroom we use as a shrine room, Cd/IPod music player, internet with Wifi connection, and bicycle for your use while you stay here.

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

Our home is in the quiet neighborhood of Oak Glen/Glen Echo Creek, in Oakland - just across the bay from San Francisco. We are adjacent to the very trendy Piedmont Avenue district just north of Lake Merritt. It is a 15 minute walk to the BART train where we can go anywhere in the San Francisco Bay area by public transport, including the Oakland airport which is a 20 minute train ride away (SFO is 45 minutes away). San Francisco is a ten minute train ride under the bay from the closest station. Piedmont Avenue boasts an excellent market and restaurants including some of the best sushi in the Bay Area, taquerias, organic pizza, and fine dining (including the venerable Bay Wolf and Cesar - owned by the folks who trained at world famous Chez Panisse). The neighborhood also has taverns, a cinema, pharmacy, coffeehouses, a spa (with massage, saunas and outdoor hot tubs), local bakery, even a small library. We are within a 15 minute car ride to miles of hiking trails in the hills with redwoods and oak forest. Just outside our door is one of the only open creeks in Oakland with a park & many fine old oak trees. We are within walking distance to the Northlake/Grand Avenue area which has a fantastic farmer's market on Saturdays. Downtown Oakland offers many restaurants, nightclubs, theatres, a vibrant Chinatown area, and Jack London Square on the waterfront with one of the most famous Jazz clubs in the world - Yoshi's. We live in a family oriented area with many beautiful older homes.
