Destination Preferences: France for August
You'll love College Park, our neighborhood, which was the 1st neighborhood in Orlando. It's family friendly, beautiful and while close to so much you'll feel a million miles away from the hub-bub of the city. You'll enjoy taking walks in the morning / evening and seeing beautiful turn of the century estate homes, inviting lakes, and brick streets shaded by Florida Oak trees complete with hanging moss. People love to walk their dogs, stroll, jog, bike, and get outdoors throughout the year. We have a family of otters on our Lake Ivanhoe, Blue Heron and Egrets, ducks and squirrels who play in their own domain, fish & more.
Within easy 5-10 min. walking distance from our home you'll be delighted by the quaint shops, delicious restaurants, post office, grocery store, banks, churches, & parks. And on Thursday evenings from 4-9pm we have a Farmers Market at the end of our street where you can buy some tasty treat for dinner & mix with the neighbors. Our little community is truly a unique treasure, and in a much sought after area. It has the charm of "small town" with friendly neighbors and porch-fronted homes, yet considered "downtown" Orlando as it has such easy access to the major highways and byways that take you within an easy 20-30 minutes to the well known attractions like Disney World, Sea World, Universal Studios and MGM, or to the fashion outlets & International Drive water parks. Cocoa Beach, Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach on the Eastcoast are only 45 minutes away, and the Westcoast beaches of St. Petersburg and Clearwater are within an easy 2 hour drive, as is historic and fascinating St. Augustine to the north. And if it's nature you love, Florida is known for it's natural Springs and wildlife and we have plenty close by. There are opportunities galore to snorkel, fish, swim, hike, bike, jetski, horseback ride, camp, explore, and relax in this wonderfully located city. It truly is a great place to live & visit--a wonderful place to make great memories!
We are a family of three: Charles, who is a Forensic Criminologist for the State of Florida, Denise, who is a Life Coach & Consultant, and Cosette, an art-loving, song-writing, nature-hugging 10 year old! And then there are our dear Turkish Van cats, Milo & Snowball whom we rescued when they were just 4 weeks old and now are almost 3 years grown, so friendly and lovable!
We love to live life fully and passionately, appreciating the company of good friends and family, simple delicious food, playing games, camping, biking, writing, traveling and diving into new experiences, especially cultural and in nature. One of our dreams is to one day live in France for a year, or two or three, and travel throughout Europe. Denise is working on learning French, but is still a long ways off!
Charles is a Randonneur ultra distance cyclist and has qualified and registered to participate in the Paris-Brest-Paris ride event in August 2011, so we are all looking forward to a few weeks over in France this Summer... and hopefully with a home exchange experience to top it off!
